Description
Glöm aldrig bort mitt namn... Glöm aldrig bort mig, 25601...The amount of hours I spent on this and the amount I like the result aren't in harmony. But maybe this is still worth uploading. Maybe.
Some Prologue-era Jean Valjean and Javert, drawn mainly because I think Valjean needs more love than he gets. If all copies of Les Mis disappeared and someone had to reconstruct the book using only fanart as their source, the parts with the barricade boys and Éponine would be five times longer than anything else and JVJ would be a footnote there somewhere... ;D
Once again inspired by ÅST but done mainly without reference pictures. Can't help it - that production just is Les Mis to me. So, the number 5 on Valjean's chest isn't a mistake.
Les Mis is not mine.

Isn't looking *directly* at him, anyhow. Now that I see it again... Anyhow, something just reminds me of that fact. Valjean's future was stained, but Javert's was practically untouched. It's amazing to think there was a time when the events which have come to define them were unknown and seemingly unlikely points in a field of possibilities, when the saint was thought cursed and the lost one would "mark out a straight path through the most tortuous thing in the world."

Awww, I like it. They both look so intense, and I love the rich colors.
So I'm curious... why'd they change it to a five? Would it just sound weird with a four?
And no way... Javert and Valjean are my favorite characters. The rest are incidental to me.

Yep, it'd sound weird. Four is a two-syllable word in Swedish, fyra, that wouldn't fit to the lyrics.
But thanks so much!

HIENO ON. ;W; Millä sä värität hyvä ihminen, saat niin älyttömän nättii jälkee aikaan! Ja noi on niin näköset!
ÅST-ikävä kasvoi juuri asteella vaihteeksi...
PS Oon miettiny. Et.

Eeee...

Wow, thanks so much! (Though, seeing there are about three convict Valjeans to be seen in the whole dART, maybe that's not such a great accomplishment...

I really, really like this one. Their poses, expressions, and coloring all just say so much about their characters -- if someone had to reconstruct the book using only fanart as a guide, this would be a vital part of the puzzle! I love the dark, muddy layering used on Valjean; it has more depth than your usual shading, I think. I also love the presence of both the candlestick and the yellow ticket of leave.

I totally agree, Jean Valjean doesn't get nearly enough love. It's always Enjolras and Eponine. Great picture, it's one of my favorites of yours!

Yep, very true... Though I get it's easier, and sometimes funnier, to draw young pretty people like Éponine and Enjy... Each character is amazing enough to have some fanart for themselves!

Starlene In reply to Fangfairy [2012-02-24 21:18:08 +0000 UTC]
As said in the artist comment - it is not a mistake. In the Swedish translation of the show, Valjean's number is 25601 because the word four, fyra, has a syllable too many to fit the lyrics. This picture was inspired by Åbo Svenska Teater's Swedish production of the show.

"If all copies of Les Mis disappeared and someone had to reconstruct the book using only fanart as their source,"
Actually, that might be horrifyingly interesting:
"This is the story of Enjolras, a super-hot French revolutionary leader and his boyfriend Grantaire. We also follow the tale of a poor young French woman named Eponine, who kills this chick named Cosette to win her man Marius. Oh, and something about a loaf of bread and a hot inspector..."

ÄÄÄ oikeesti, en pysty kykene ymmärtämään miten värität noin kauniisti!
JVJ:n takki on kyl niin paras! Tälleen by the way. Mulla on joku pakottava tarve aina ilmottaa kuinka joku yksityiskohta on hieno...

Kurjat: Enjolras & Grantaire - dramaattinen rakkaustarina. Muutamalla sivulla seikkailee joku Valjean-niminen heppu. Tottahan tuokin!

XDDD SO TRUE!

After apocalypse, The picture which was folded to four is excavated from the Finnish remains. There was a signature of Starlene. It is displayed in the museum of the alien. (sorry, I am over-reading of old Si-fi novel. )
This is interesting. In Japanese musical , director was changed to 24653 for easier pronunciation.
