Description
Have you ever thought about what keeps Erik's mask in it's place?Me and my pal ~EntirelyInsane have.
I mentioned that when I did my Phantom cosplay I kept the mask in place with duct tape. She told me I should put that into a picture - so the credit for the creation of this pic goes to her, actually, and so this pic is dedicated to her!

Lol, there was a behind the scenes shot where Gerard and Patrick were sword frighting, and Gerard's mask drooped down and he just stopped and was trying to fix it. xD

If he actually had duct tape under there... I wouldn't be surprised if he GOT the deformity from Christine tearing the mask off his face. Oh my, that stuff is strong!
I remember using it for a cosplay costume to keep some stuff in place too (nope, it wasn't the phantom), and when I took it off it felt like I tore my skin off. Well... uhm... actually not, but at least all the hair on my skin, which also hurts.
Immediately explains why he screams so much in the unmasking scene, lol :}

The mask that my friend purchased at a show has elastic around it. Ramin's in the 25th anniversary concert has wire. Gordon asked John Owen Jones on twitter, and he said that each mask is custom fit to each actors face.

So I'm alone in duct tape!
I did notice the wire when I saw the concert screening - and almost screamed SO THAT'S HOW IT'S DONE out loud...
Also, asking John Owen-Jones stuff on twitter? I wouldn't dare to!

Yeeep. I assume that would somewhat screw with the makeup underneath.
I really didn't like how OBVIOUS the wire was, but I'm also the one who screamed during the intermission "WHY DOES RAMIN NEED *TWO* MICROPHONES?! THE GREEDY MIC WHORE. EVERYONE ELSE ONLY GETS ONE!"
My friend Gordon is FOLLOWED by JOJ on twitter, so.

Wow, your friend Gordon has some amazing followers! Really... If I was in Twitter, I'd be jealous, JOJ's one of my fav musical actors!!

I've a gazillion favourites because everyone I like automatically goes to that folder - and very little least favourites, because I've been lucky enough to avoid most really awful performances, in Finland at the very least.

Depends on who you talk to - but yeah, in some circles, he is (though most of the circles I spend time with on the internet seem to hate him )... I'd rather seen JOJ as the 25th Ann Phantom. But whatever, Ramin was pretty good there, too.

You know, everyone else is going gaga over him, and I'm still sitting in the corner with my friend Jazzy, singing Colm Wilkinson's praises. *shrugs* Ah well. Take it or leave it.

When it comes to JVJ, Alexander Lycke or Jonathan Williams ftw! I've never, personally, liked Colm Wilkinson in the role that much... Seeing him live would've probably been great, and he sings well - but I don't really see Valjean in TAC, I just see Colm Wilkinson.
As for Phantom, I should get that CD with him already.

He was my first. I grew up with the Broadway cast. I mean, I'm also a big Alfie Boe supporter.
In terms of Phantom, I love Colmy-poo even though all I hear when I listen to it is Cosette and Valjean.
In terms of Valjean, I will fight to the death to defend Alfie Boe.

Alfie Boe is... alright, I guess. I haven't watched the concert in ages (too much real live Les Mis to miss it enough to watch any DVDs!), so I don't really remember...

You know, I haven't seen it in awhile either. That's probably why my senses were distorted enough that during a performance of Dr. Horrible I swore the applause after On The Rise was greater than the applause after Alfie's Bring Him Home.

The audience that night was just paticularly amazing. I mean, even before I went onstage (I'm only in Act 3, other than a quick cameo in act 1) I could feel their love.

bahahaha. I just use an extremely thin transparent string(s) for my mask and my Erik plushies' masks. But for the Phantom movie, there apparently was some sticky glue involved. Gerry said it hurt after many takes!

Starlene In reply to DarthxErik [2010-08-13 20:33:41 +0000 UTC]
Maybe the strings idea is somewhat better than mine... The glue sounds painful, though!
Thanks for the fav!

In the picture, very much yes!
But in real life, actually no. This might be volunteering too much information, but at least my cosplay mask was so hot that the skin under it got pretty sweaty and the tape was really easy to get off...

I laughed when I saw this -- I really like how you draw Erik too <3
And the sad thing is, I don't know what they do for the musical but they actually glued the mask to Gerard Butler's face in the 2004 movie. ....ouch

Starlene In reply to Blue-Rouge [2010-08-13 18:28:32 +0000 UTC]
Thanks so much! I've just been abusing Erik in my latest pics, maybe I should get around drawing something nicer with him too...
Wow, I didn't know that - ouch, indeed! The musical still confuses me, how does it keep there? Do they insert little hooks in his face makeup?
