More doodles from the Finnish/Swedish Les Mis.Marius is usually a bit socially awkward, but in Finland they lift it onto a new level... He tries to get to Cosette's garden by climbing a tree and falls right in front of her feet. And when he has seen Cosette for the first time he feels so overjoyed he just has to hug Eponine.
He's actually really cute.
The Marius here doesn't look like the Finnish Marius, though. Ours is a quite good-looking young man who resembles Hugh Grant a little. Cosette and Eponine look a little more like their Finnish counterparts.
Les Mis is not mine.
Socially Awkward Marius is one of my favourite things.

I agree, it's such a heartbreaking but beautiful story... Jean Valjean and Fantine are my favourites, too, and I really like Cosette too.

Me too, Cosette is such a sweet and plucky girl, I felt sorry for her when she was poorly mistreated by the Thernardiers, they were very cruel people, especially eponine and azemla, though 'm happy she got out of there by Jean Valjean, that's why I love cosette, and I love Fantine because she truly loved her daughter more than anything, and had to sacrifice many things in order to raise her daughter, though it was sad she passed away and not seeing her daughter nor see her grow as a beautiful young lady. ;w; and when Eponine died inside the barricades after she gave a letter to Marius.

Love this picture! Marius sounds cute....in a sort of stupid and foolish way, but still cute! I love the awkwardness of the pictures, and really wish I could see the Finnish version!

On a side note, are those how the stage costumes look? (Don't mind me, I'm a historical-costuming nerd and I swoon when things get closer to accurate than usual.)

They're kind of halfway there, except for Marius's costume, which is just from my mind.
If you're interested, maybe this video or these pictures are better ways figuring out if Finnish costumes are accurate or not.

PS - as far as I can tell, by and large, they are (or at last closer than most productions I've seen!) I spent quite a while drooling in awe - most people avoid 1830s fashion like the plague, especially the color/pattern combos.

An extra reason to love the production, then! I don't think I could recognise 1830's fashion even if they dressed me in it, but it's good knowing the production got it right!

Just fyi... I'm telling you because (I'll probably tell all of deviantART soon, but I am swamped) you're one of my favorite people on DA right now... I'm on a huge--HUGE-- Les Mis spree right now. With the tour coming in less than a month, and it being about a year since I performed Les Mis... and about 2 years since I last saw it... and I'm watching Shoujo Cosette start to finish w/ my family every night... and I'm reading the unabridged novel (FINALLY!!!!) this kind of stuff makes me feel all gushy inside. <3

Ok, I'm not sure if you're familiar with torrent downloading, cause I wasn't, but it's fairly simple to figure out... you gotta download a torrent program that'll process the downloaded torrent files. But here's the website where I downloaded all the episodes (with English subtitles!!) to my computer. [link] Just click "1-52 batch".

LOL! So perfect. I do want to see him falling out of a tree! It just seems... well, suited to his character in the musical.
At my favorite performance of Les Mis EVER (Walnut Street Theatre, Philadelphia, PA), Marius and Cosette were very "Tony & Maria"-like. BUT. Marius climbed over the gate into the garden, and actually pulled his love letter out of his pocket and started trying to read it aloud to Cosette! It made the fragmented opening lines work so well: "A heart full of love... A heart full of song..." and then he breaks off and is like "Oh crap, reading the letter was an awful idea!"
As a book fan, I was so excited to see his "Heart Under a Stone" -- I think I squealed loudly enough that they could hear me on the level below me! Ooops. My friend was really embarrassed to be sitting next to me, after that.

:-D The musical makes it hard for me to go back and read the book -- I really can't stand Marius in the original novel. But *this* version of Marius... adorable! And so well-meaning! None of the weird pouty fits and guilt trips that he pulls with Cosette in the book.
