Well, hes black so he has to be E_, the _ can be E, which means no red based foals, or e which will allow red foals. He looks like he has sabino which can indeed come from a purebred quarter(our friend has a solid quarter stud that literally tosses sabino on nearly every foal, i find it hiliarious) and then have the blanket gene...if you need more info let me know.
And oh dear hes GORGEOUS! Like awesomely gorgeous mister beautiful! I will have to breed our appaloosa mares to him

Ok so.... so far i have... Ee/ whats the rest?? lolz... idk what the blanket, sabino, or anything else gene is... could you give examples...his dad was a dark bay with blanket and sabino, and his mom was a pitch black mare with no markings at all and was homozegyous for black/sabino markings.... if that helps any... and yes this is from my imagination...lol
Awe thanks He is a looker aint he? but he can be a fricken naughty boy...hes the one id like for you to train in reining
he gets his attitude from his Dam...shes evil...

painted-cowgirl In reply to starlightpaths [2010-12-31 01:41:29 +0000 UTC]
Well, if his mom has no markings she aint homozygous sabino XD Mares can be nasty

damnit....ack i have to change them again ok RESTART
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
painted-cowgirl In reply to starlightpaths [2010-12-31 01:46:29 +0000 UTC]
If you want her to be homozygous sabino, she would have to be VERY white spotty XD If you wanted heterozygous(only 50% chance instead of 100%) she could just have socks and a bald face...
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
starlightpaths In reply to painted-cowgirl [2010-12-31 01:49:52 +0000 UTC]
ok...restart....
as you can tell im easily confused yet with the whole gene thing
Sire: Dark Bay with blanket with four stockings, and star. Genes go back to Palouse Appaloosa
Dam: Black with Bald face and two hind socks... so can she still be homozegeous for black and heterozegyous for sabino?

painted-cowgirl In reply to starlightpaths [2010-12-31 01:59:12 +0000 UTC]
I was too, but i got ahold of that website and just watched after that...
Sire: Well, it doesnt quite matter what his genes go back to, it only matters about the parent genes. A Bay means he has agouti, which is noted as AA/Aa if its aa, then the horse does not carry the gene. So we know the sire is Aa because he produced black offsping. Now the four stockings dont quite matter inless they go really high, in case they did, he could have sabino, but since he doesnt carry quarter horse in him, it is likely not, so we are back down to Aa, Appaloosa is a very hard genetic type to decide, so i will need to search down a link for that in a second.
As for the Dam: A black horse can always be homozygous for black even if both parents are bay. so if both parents were black. This is not the "black gene" but is considered the red gene. A red based horse carries ee. A black or bay based horse carries Ee or EE. If they are homozygous black, its EE. So we know your mare is EE, and now we know that she has a bald face, which is common with sabino, so if shes got that, then she is nSb. Which is the sabino form of Ee or Aa. SbSb is a homozygous sabino and nn is a horse that doesnt carry the gene. So we know your mare is EE/nSb
If that made any sense let me know

starlightpaths In reply to painted-cowgirl [2010-12-31 02:06:50 +0000 UTC]
No they dont go too high just high enough to make them stockings...
yes makes sense...
So
Hed have Ee/nSb?? now would he have Aa too?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
painted-cowgirl In reply to starlightpaths [2010-12-31 02:18:57 +0000 UTC]
No, since he isnt bay, Aa only comes into play when its with brown or bay based horses. I just need to search down the appaloosa pattern part
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
starlightpaths In reply to painted-cowgirl [2010-12-31 02:20:53 +0000 UTC]
ok thanks so much for the search...and so his genes would be Ee/nSb

painted-cowgirl In reply to starlightpaths [2010-12-31 02:22:22 +0000 UTC]
yes, but now i need to get ya the appaloosa gene for him
Right now though he is a Black Sabino Blanket Appaloosa, and technically, a Pintaloosa

hehehehe...Looney baby?? lolz
ok i think i have it figured out
hed be Ee/Sbsb/PTNPTN/LPLP/ScSc thats what im getting from the diagram if im wrong please help....
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
painted-cowgirl In reply to starlightpaths [2010-12-31 02:59:35 +0000 UTC]
Ee/nSb(its with a n, not lowercase for this)/nPtn(because only one parent has appaloosa markings)/nLp(only one parent)/nSc(again one parent, and hes got a blanket marking, i thought it said on there that the pattern can differ from diagram) so in total
Ee/aa/nSb/nPtn/nLp/nSc
I added in the aa cause some people will ask anyways....theres his genetics

i will... I really do appreciate the help...Ive grown up with horses my whole life pretty much but i never got into the genetic part cuz we never bred our mares or anything..we tried but they never took to the stallions...which was sad but kinda a good thing...we couldnt afford AI so thats why we stopped trying... Plus Iris never gave the cholustrom to the foals so that wouldve been hard to take care of the foal when it would be first born...
