Description As the 21st century drew to a close, the age of chemical propulsion so too was drawing to a close. Major advancements in AI in ladder half of the century unlocked new technologies and areas of physics previously unfathomed of.

electrogravitic thrusters, warp drive, and fusion reactors small enough to fit in a backpack but powerful enough to run an entire city block were just some of the most game changing technologies to come out of a century of so much war and despair.

When combined. These three new technologies alone were enough to change everything about the way humanity operated, in every aspect of life. However, they require stable, trans-uranic elements to function.

Moscovium 295 is an element so heavy, that the strong nuclear force actually extends beyond the radios of the electron cloud. This, by itself creates a natural warping of the very fabric space-time. This "warp bubble" can be amplified through the Casmir effect.

The drive ring is nothing but a series of metal plates, VERY close together and arranged in a ring. Much like a big spool of ribbon. through combining the negative vacuum energy effect created within the drive ring, the bubble can be greatly amplified and projected outward to encapsulate the ship. Then, the focusing deflector forces the front of the bubble to contract, and the rear to expand.

The ship will then, quite literally fall into it's own gravity-well. A ship doing this with sufficient power and engine design can achieve apparent velocities greater than the speed of light.

TSS-X1 (Terran Star Ship) Starsurfer was the first manned spacecraft built by Humanity capable of faster than light travel, launched into space in pieces the mid 2090s atop their own custom built "Riga" heavy lift booster.

She was assembled in low orbit over a six month period. During that time. Over two dozen space walks had to be conducted to weld and bolt everything together, which all went well enough. Unfortunately, Starlites untested rocket booster design suffered some major failures during landing and six total were lost.

The final launch, with the most sensitive experiments and of course, the crew took place aboard an old SpaceX Starship passenger liner variant dubbed the "Tangerine Star Buggy"  flying it's final mission before retirement.

The two vessels remained docked for just under 17 hours, before the transfer was complete and the two vehicles from two different eras separated for the final time.

As they drifted apart, the crew watched from the cockpit as the old rocket ship turned around and fired it's engines retrograde, preparing for one last fiery dive into Earths thick atmosphere.

Caught up watching as the shiny old ship grew ever smaller on the monitors before disappearing over the horizon. The crew waited anxiously to hear the confirmation that the old lady had once again touched down successfully onto it's catch tower as it had so many times before.

On the bridge, they watched the live stream as the massive ship swung around at the last minute and inserted itself with uncanny precision into the waiting arms of the catch tower.

With their friends, the crew of the liner safely on the ground it was time to begin their first voyage.

Using gravitic thrusters, they would put themselves on course to Mars just in case something went wrong, they could enter orbit there. The infrastructure there wasn't great. But it was more than nothing. They could at least hitch a ride back.

After a short "burn" with the thrusters, Starsurfer was underway to Mars by means of conventional Hohmann transfer.

Once Starsurfer passed outside of the Moons orbit around the Earth, she would send a message to herself via laser before engaging her warp drive and beating the laser beam to the target.
