Description

You know, despite MLP introducing changelings, one thing that's shockingly lacking in existence; Star Trek crossovers. Oh, sure, the show itself went there and Discord is just Q in a silly pony outfit and more maturity, but you know what I only found one fanart of? A ponified Odo. So I fixed that.

If you don't get it, Constable Odo is a character on Star Trek: Deep Space 9, who is a sapient pile of goo in the shape of a man, and the species of alien he is are referred to as ‘changelings'.

For the Star Trek people, My Little Pony introduced changelings in the 2nd season, a race of equinomorphic bugs that can shapeshift into anything and eat love to survive. Though, specifically, he's a changedling; when a changeling learns to give love instead of taking it, they transform into a brighter, softer creature that isn't full of holes.

Him being a changedling instead of a holey buggy black creature is entirely so he can have an actual color scheme, no other reason. I imagine, if this was a ponified Star Trek, he's still a pile of goo, this is just his closest approximation of a pony, for some reason he can't become less buglike when he attempts to take an equinoid shape.

Yeah, it’s really weird.

That's a neat look for Odo outside of his Equestrian bucket. I can just hear Rene Auberjonois's voice coming out of this changedling (also, I spelled his name from memory)

I’m always impressed whenever I or someone else can do that. It gets easier every time you do it, but it’s still a little hard to remember.

This is really neat, and I'm surprised that no one's done that before with Odo.  He fits really well as a changeling, and I bet the female changeling would have the appearance of the old-style changelings, possibly even like Chrysalis.  This also makes me wonder what the other Equestrian creatures the other major Star Trek races would be.  Let's see, off the top of my head:

Humans - Earth Ponies

Vulcans - Unicorns (cause Vulcans are like elves, and Unicorns are the elves of ponykind)

Klingons - Griffons (cause of Birds of Prey)

Romulans - Pegasi (cause of Romulan Warbirds)

Bajorans - Crystal Ponies (with the Crystal Heart being analogous to the Orbs of the Prophets)

Cardassians - Dragons (cause dragons eat gems and the Cardassians conquered the Bajorans)

Trill - Zebras (cause Trill spots analogous to Zebra stripes)

Andorians - Hippogriffs (to parallel Klingons as Griffons)

Breen - Yaks (cause they live in the cold)

The Borg - The Umbrum (cause Sombra controls ponies like the Borg assimilate others)

That's the best I could think of.  I kinda went with the more human-like aliens as ponies and the less human-like ones as other creatures.  What do you think?  Which ones do you think they'd be?

I really like the idea! But what about having Romulans as Kirin, since they're alternate unicorns, rather than Pegasi

Thanks!  Oh, that's not a bad idea.  Kirin could also work for the Ocampa, I think, since the Ocampa also have mystic-like abilities but live in a faraway remote location.  Breezies could also be a good fit for Ocampa as well, now that I think about it.  I was also thinking it might make more sense for Romulans to be Bat Ponies and Vulcans to be Pegasi, since Romulans and Vulcans are supposed to be related, and I realized that I forgot another major race that might be a good fit for Unicorns as well: Betazoids!  I knew I was forgetting a few major Star Trek races.  There's also the Ferengi, who might fit well as Diamond Dogs.

Also, I realized something while thinking about this, that MLP Changelings could work as analogues to the Borg as well (due to having a hive structure and a lot of black and green in their color schemes), and Star Trek Changelings could alternatively fit as the Umbrum (since they can turn to and merge into a shadowy mass like how the Changelings are in the Great Link).  Just a random observation I noticed, since I do really like Odo as an MLP Changeling and having both types of Changelings being analogues to each other is just too good to pass up.

I also don't really have any ideas on who some of the other races could be, such as Jem'hadar (Storm Creatures?  Centaurs?), Vorta (Gargoyles?), Talaxians (Abyssinians?), or any others I missed.  Also, would androids like Data be made of wood like Timberwolves?  At least holograms would probably just be magical constructs like astral projections.  There's definitely a lot of fun and interesting ways to go with this idea.

I think the Ocampa would definitely be breezies
Jem’Hadar would definitely be storm creatures, and Ferengi as Diamond Dogs would be fun.

Yeah, once I remembered the Breezies, I realized Ocampa fit them much better than Kirin, plus Kes as a Breezie would be adorable.  Jem'hadar definitely fit well as Storm Creatures, but what would be a good fit for Vorta?  Hedgehogs like Grubber?  That would actually be kinda funny.

Oooh, now I'm wanting to see your version of Odo interacting with Quark as a Diamond Dog.  "He could be anything: a cup, a pad, this chair!"  "Quark!"

Quark and family would all be adorably small chihuahuas
