Everyone's favorite trans robot pal, it's Mettaton!
I love Mettaton so much. He's an amazing character with an amazing backstory and just... He's my favorite character, at least, sometimes. I love all the characters so much that I change favorites often XD. But Mettaton was by far the most fun enemy in the game to fight; his whole shtick is amazing. He's basically the Underground's Chris McLean, honestly. A game show host character with a rather... loose set of morals on occasion. He's just... the best. I mean, Mettaton casually just fucking pulling out a giant goddamn chainsaw in the middle of his cooking show. A cooking show. And he behaves like this is a common occurrence. His musical turns into a life or death literal firewall, his news-casting show turns out to be entirely bombs. He is just amazing and I love him. His sense of humor is great.
Funny enough... I actually like Calculator!Mettaton far more than his EX form. He's far more expressive in his antics that way, and I feel like even if he's got a new form, the Underground loves his old form the most, and not just that, it's the body he's most comfortable in... Even without a face, he has the most expressiveness in this form. And anyway, for the papyton shippers, Papyrus's favorite form is also the Calculator form; "I HEARD YOU GOT TO MEET METTATON!! IS THAT TRUE!? CAN YOU GET ME AN AUTOGRAPH!? HE'S MY FAVORITE SEXY RECTANGLE!!"... jfc papyrus frisk is seven you are discussing the sexiness of your celebrity crush with a seven year old, calm down.
His backstory is beautiful too, the story of poor Hapstablook, an agender ghost who doesn't feel like they belong in their body, finding a way, with the help of a friend, to have the body and identity that he always desired. And yes, if you check, his dead name is actually Hapstablook, his house is labeled 'hapstablook' in the files, meaning that Papyrus was almost right with his idea of 'Happstablook', just off by a letter.
That's also a bit of my post-pacifist headcanon. He finds out, well, it turns out humans don't allow actual deadly shows to exist in their world? They don't allow real bloodshed?... Well, real drama is still an option, right?... He ends up getting his own talk show. Fine, close enough. He's petitioning for a cultural exception on the 'no deadly challenges' on his talk show. Considering, as Papyrus once said, "YOU MUST BE HAVING CULTURE SHOCK. YOU SEE, WHERE I COME FROM, IT'S A LOVING TRADITION TO SUFFER THROUGH HORRIBLE PUZZLES FOR NO REASON." it's an argument he's hoping will work so he can hav fun again. But after doing it for a couple weeks and getting really big ratings (The ratings spike up considerably when he's in his Ex form)... Somebody mistakes Mettaton for a chick during one show, and when he corrects them, they ask if the Underground has trans people too. And, it turns out Mettaton.. kinda had no idea what this trans thing meant, despite being trans (Agender to Male) himself, the Underground never really had terms for it, so he kinda.... discovers a new topic. Once he heard about this whole 'transphobia' thing that's literally all his talk show is about for like the next five weeks. The whole thing becomes about that for as long as he's pissed about it, which is quite a while. Pretty soon he's well known as the first monster to get heavily involved in LGBT activism and he is hardcore serious about this. Humans are they're stuck with their bodies forever that's literally the most horrifying thing he can imagine. Not being able to become whatever you want, and there's ways to fix that... and people aren't letting them fix it? And hating those who have? He is still technically a killer robot, people~ Does anyone need reminding? He will totally provide demonstrations to anyone who misgenders Napstablook.
Mettaton being trans is an important thing, ok? It's not the only great thing about him, but I just can't see his extreme dramatic enthusiasm not bleeding into how he thinks of everything, including any activism he'd do.
Design-wise, not much is changed, though I used colors from his canon pin, just adjusted to fit the correct colors. I also gave his wheel a small padding so it fit properly, and his wheel is now bendable like his arms are.
