Description As a bonus for that drawing, here's Mickey in a power overload. If I'm going to be honest, I was mostly inspired for this idea by MLP, with Twilight's story in 'Cutie Mark Chronicles', or more specifically, Twilight's magic overload. I just like that idea, especially when paired with the concept of a character who seems so weak and powerless, but has powers beyond his appearance or actions. I also referenced it by having Duncan being turned into a houseplant. I suppose in the TDHW universe, that sort of transformation is less permanent than in the traditional HP universe, or the transformation wasn't as permanent because it was a magic outburst, because this is my world, for my fun, and I enjoy it. It's just something I'm doing because I like it, so I don't feel like I need to make it make perfect sense, as long as I'm having fun.
This is the reason Mickey wears the helmet. Jay may be more able to use magic, but he's not the more magically powerful of the two. Mickey is. Mickey can't always use his wand well, but he has a lot of magical power... he just can't control it. I'm talking serious magical power, electric currents of magic, glowing and floating type. But the helmet suppresses that magic, for the most part. If he's frightened to an extreme degree, or hurt badly, the overload can overpower the helmet. They found that one out when Duncan decided to mess with them, and... well, do you know how hard it is to figure out how to turn a person back from a houseplant? The answer is; very. So basically, do not take the helmet off, and don't be a dick to Mickey. Or Jay, for that matter, that can end badly too. Mickey is working on figuring out how to use his wand better, since the magical outbursts are caused by built up magical power that overloads, learning how to express the pent up magic would 'fix' it. He still has a low ability to suppress magic, but the helmet does keep it in. If he can work out how to lower the buildup, the helmet will keep the rest of the magic controlled.

Aden: Can't help you there. I dunno how to brew Felix Felicis. And the amount you would need is highly toxic.

Jay: It's just as well.. we're probably allergic, anyway.
Mickey:.. Like most things.
Sugar: How do yall even get allergenetic to that many things, anyway?
Sky:.... I don't think I can really say anything about the mispronunciation. I just can't.

Shawn: I'm totally not constructing a crystalline fortress out here!
Jasmine: *sighs and facepams* Shawn, ya can't just make a fortress out of every element he tries teachin' us!

Aden: Shawn, crystals aren't that strong a material to build a fortress out of! All one has to do is strike the right spot and they shatter! Plus, its super-shiny, the last thing you ewant to be in a zombie apocalypse.

(Aden uses Shawn-style logic! It's super-effective!)

Shawn: *theres a long pause of silence before a large shattering sound is heard* Ok! Fixed!
*Mickey has jumped into Jay's arms, both quaking in fear*
Jasmine: Lands sake...
Sky:... That was loud.

Shawn: *he looks like a kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar, the apparently previous crystalline shelter in pieces around him, shattered* Uhhhh, hi?
Jasmine: *picks up her scrawny little boyfriend* You just scared the crud out of everybody here, you little dingo!
Shawn: He said it was a bad fort!
Jasmine: That doesn't mean blow it up!
Sugar: *grabbing some of the shards* Ohhh, these are so prettiful! Come to mama Sugar!
Mickey: Me and Jay are just going to... stay away from the sharp things, ok?
