Welcome to the Miracleverse! AKA, the Disliked Ships AU, but I don't use this as a platform for hate. While the universe is slightly... twisted, they are all options that could have happened in the main TFIMverse. They're a chance to do things with the... standard ships that people have, and using them in new ways, as well as a platform for interesting characters. And let me say, it's time for the stuff to begin! Sort of! First of the many times we'll be doing STORIES in this universe, these are pictures in scenarios that either advance the story, or in this case, provide backstory! They might feature only canon characters, or only OCs, this one features Spike with his daughter Miracle , and.. wow, I can't believe how hard it was for me to write her (though having horrible tooth pain every day I tried to write this, and now that I'm not in tooth pain, I can finally finish it, and I'm still not certain of the quality of this, but trust me, I want to get this out of my system so I can work on more stories for the Miracleverse! I want to have this done, so let's do this. Anyway, I tried to show Miracle's perspective on her father's strange behavior when it comes to hanging out with her, and his own thoughts on it, contrasting on what she thinks is going on versus what is. It's not exactly the best, I don't know if it is or if my perspective is warped, but whatever it is, it's done. Enjoy family fluff with a hint of sadness. It's short but still. I should stop making excuses and just post it XD.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Daddy, Daddy!" It was one of Miracle's good days, where her makeup was perfect and the ruddy red nose she usually sported was gone for the day, nose not stuffed up and eyes not covered in a fine crust of goo, she was happy.. though no matter what her physical health was, it was hard to find a day where the little dragon pony wasn't happy. She infected the room with her cheer, even if she was infectious in other ways, she was never sour. She wagged her tail, the spines and her small tuft of hair at the end of it waving with the motion, grinning. "Daddy!" She repeated her sentiment, stomping her hooves on the soft, carpeted floor of the Carousel Boutique, her home and where she spent most of her time when she wasn't well enough to go to school.. which was often. "I'm feeling really good!" She said, before considering if she was clear enough. "And now that I'm feeling better, I wanna play!" She added, looking around for her father, though she said she was feeling better, she didn't want to risk her good health by getting too excited and overexerting herself, so she called out rather than run around looking for him.

"Heh, I heard you, Miracle." Spike laughed from somewhere further away in the boutique, and Miracle watched as he carefully stepped down the stairs from his room. Her dad must have been sleeping. He did that a lot, especially around her. Her dad was just a bit of a lazy dad, but that's ok. She was tired a lot, so she guessed that having a really active dad might be a bit hard for her. Really, it was super supportive of him to be so lazy. Even if sometimes she did want to play, she supposed it was better if it was easier for her most of the time and hard sometimes than always hard. "So, you feel better?" He reached the bottom of the stairs, Miracle staring up at her dad, his huge body reaching the top of the doorframe, spikes brushing up against the top, his scaly frame was huge compared to her and, if most ponies seemed to indicate, everypony else. She was probably only as big as her dad's head, a little bit smaller, maybe. He looked around for her, and she waved her hoof to get his attention. "There you are." He grinned, looking at her with love evident in his eyes.

"Yep!" Miracle laughed, trotting up to her father and pointing at her face. "Look, my nose stopped running!" She grinned, her one snaggletooth showing. "And I don't feel all stuffed up either." She continued, looking for her father's reaction, and when he smiled, she smiled even more, glad he realized she was feeling better. "I think I'm all better!" She was practically hopping up and down in obvious joy.

"Well then," Her dad smiled, pausing slightly. Probably thinking of all the ways they could play today. Or maybe just being lazy about speaking. He probably wasn't that lazy.... probably, so it was definitely the thinking. "What do you want to do?" He asked her, leaning down slowly to meet her at some approximation of eye level, still staring down at her, but less so.

"Um... I dunno..." Miracle paused. For all her excitement, she had been incredibly silly and forgotten to think of something she would want to do. "Maybe we could... um... I was thinking maybe go outside?" She grinned nervously, knowing it had rained hard yesterday, and neither Mommy or Daddy liked to go out when it was raining or after it had rained.

"Sweetheart, you know we can't go outside after it rains." Spike frowned, and she looked up dejectedly. "You could get sick in all that cold, wet rain." He added, and she let out a little sigh and puffed out her cheeks.

"But I just got done being sick!" Miracle said, frustrated. "So I shouldn't get sick again right after it!" It made sense to her; you only get sick for so long. And she couldn't get sick because that just... wasn't fair. You needed at least a few days of feeling better before you got sick again, it was only logical.

"... That's just not how it works." He sighed, and she looked at him with slight frustration. "Sweetheart, I know it's not fair, but you can get sick again even if you were still sick with the cold you already have." He explained, ignorant of how unfair it was to Miracle to not be allowed to play outside. "We can still play.... um... I'm not very good at dressup..." He dismissed one option, causing Miracle to giggle. He was too big for any dressup clothes that would fit Mommy and he was way too big for any of Miracle's dressup clothes. She could find Mommy's makeup, but she wasn't allowed to get into it unless Mommy said she definitely could, which was a bummer, because Daddy would look really pretty in makeup. Mommy said so too, so she knew it was definitely true that he would look good in makeup.

"We could draw!" Miracle lit up her horn, a brilliant green like her eyes, even though it made her head hurt, she was super bad with mouth-writing, and she wasn't supposed to do it much anyway, in case somepony else had used the crayons first and she'd get sick cause of mouth germs. She had a special set that was just for her, but she had to clean it all the time and it was super boring and took a super long time. But drawing was fun either way.

"I guess we can draw." Spike smiled at his daughter, finally glad they had settled on something fun to do. "Mind if I just watch?" He asked sheepishly, and Miracle groaned in an extremely exaggerated way, still smiling. Of course Daddy just wanted to watch. Her daddy was just lazy like that. She guessed maybe that it would be better if they made crayons in her dads size, but they didn't, and he'd broken a lot of her crayons before, so it was probably for the best. She just wished her dad had bigger crayons, or maybe smaller hands... though, that would probably look really weird. She giggled a bit at the thought and trotted off to get her crayon set. She kept it in one of the cabinets closer to the floor, because she was so unfairly short... or was everypony else just unfairly tall?... She supposed it didn't make a difference and grabbed the whole kit and several sheets of paper.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Spike sat down on all fours as he watched his daughter trot away to get the crayons from her cabinet, quickly wrapping his tail around his body so he wouldn't be tempted to move it around too much while Miracle was playing. He didn't want to accidentally swat her with it. Β She giggled at something to herself, and he privately wondered what it was, though he didn't feel like he wanted to ask. Sometimes he just didn't feel like even trying... He did anyway, but he still sometimes admittedly stayed quiet when he could have said something, take a more active role in his daughter's life. Of course, a heavy feeling in his stomach reminded him that it wasn't like he could really be as active as he wanted. To the point where it started being a bit impossible for him to feel like trying. Why try to connect when the slightest touch could... he shook his head. Stupid thoughts. Why did he have to have a voice like that in his head?

"Hey, daddy, why'd you shake your head?" He turned to see Miracle had snuck up on him, carrying the big kit of crayons and paper, even then, he still hadn't heard her tiny hoofsteps on the carpeted floor.

"Oh, nothing, just thinking." He said, not particularly lying, he reasoned. She didn't need to worry about what he was thinking of. It wasn't important to her. She smiled and nodded.

"I was thinking about how it would be great if they made crayons big enough that you didn't break them!" Miracle said, giggling slightly. "And then, I wondered if maybe instead you should have tiny hands, but that looked silly in my head. That's why I was giggling." She added, snorting in laughter again, and Spike smiled, picturing his claws like they were when he was only a bit older than she was, and laughed. He tried to control his laughter, keeping the volume down, but it was a rather funny mental image. "I know, right?" Miracle burst into more giggling, though she suppressed a cough, Spike heard it and narrowed his eyes... she coughed a lot if she got too excited, it wasn't necessarily anything, he assured himself. Of course, it always could be... but it might not be, he kept thinking.

"It does sound pretty silly." Spike agreed, carefully lying his head down to be more level with his daughter and her drawing supplies. "What do you think you're going to draw?" He asked, curiously.

"..I dunno..." Miracle frowned for a minute and thought. He wondered what she was thinking, but instead of asking further and pressuring her, he waited patiently. "I think I'm gonna draw something for Belli'!" She grinned, and he smiled as well. Her best friend, and cousin, huh?... It wouldn't be the first time she drew for Bellicoso Bash, and he was certain it wouldn't be the last. She was always spending time with her cousin over most anypony else, partially due to not having that many friends besides her, partially because she really was that close to her cousin. He wished she could have more friends, but at least her best friend was a good one. "What do you think she'd like?" Miracle asked, snapping Spike out of his thoughts again.

"I don't know, Miracle." Spike said, completely honestly. He didn't know as much about Bellicoso as Miracle did; she was Sweetie Belle's daughter, and he always stayed out of the way when Miracle was playing.. and pretty much any other time.. he sighed, though he kept it internal, not wanting to worry his daughter. "What does she like?"

"Well, um, she likes singing." Miracle said, tapping her hoof to her head in thought. "But she probably doesn't want anypony to know, so maybe not singing... Um... she likes her pet fish?... But Amarillo and Silverado are one color each... But sort of not." She mused. "Amarillo's mostly yellow," she picked up a bright yellow crayon. "But she's also a little gold, and a little orange," she added another crayon, a much more brilliant orange gold. "And Silverado's kind of white, but a lot grey too, and a bit blue." She compiled all of her crayons and picked up a pencil.

"Why are you picking up the pencil?" Spike asked, confused. She had all of the crayons, even the black one, and she was using a pencil. He felt a little clueless, asking his seven year old daughter what she was doing with art. He was an adult, and he was married to another artist, shouldn't he know? Well, Rarity was more of a dressmaker, but still.

"Well, cause if I do the outlines in black crayon, then the lines will get all smudgy and the colors will turn blackish too." Miracle explained simply, not even looking up as she made the crude outline of two goldfish swimming together in pencil. When she was finished, she picked up the yellow crayon first. "You gotta draw the light colors first, and then the dark ones!" She laughed. "Didn't you ever draw with crayons?" She tilted her head.

"Well, not really. Mostly quills, actually." Spike laughed, feeling very silly; it made perfect sense now that his daughter explained it so simply. "I didn't draw much besides, like, equations. I've always been more of a writer." He said, thinking back to writing lists for Twilight. So, so many lists. "So no. I guess I learned something new." He grinned.

"Missus Cheerilee taught us about colors and stuff." Miracle added, while she colored little orange and gold bits over the fish that Spike could only assume was Amarillo, though he hadn't seen Bellicoso's fish before, it made sense. She carefully traced her own pencil lines with the black crayon, the pencil lines almost disappearing under the much brighter crayon. "Belli' named Amarillo after the Hisponic word for yellow, and Silverado was cause she liked the sound instead of just silver." She explained, Spike absorbing the information while nodding, calmly listening to his daughter talk about fish he had never met. It was better than never spending time with her, he had to admit, but he wished he had something to contribute, but he felt like he barely knew his own daughter.
She was just so small. He didn't know how to interact with her, and he felt he never would. She'd always be so small, and he was just.. so big... she even said it, but she didn't realize just how true it was. But he liked being a part of her life still. Just a bit farther than he'd like, even when she was right next to him, he kept enough distance so that she wasn't in danger of him shifting and hurting her on accident. He snapped out of his thoughts to see that Miracle had finished her drawing. "Daddy, daddy, look!" She poked his nose, having been so deep in thought he had lost track of time and was staring into space. "I drew them!" She held up the drawing with her magic, and he admired the crude, but very pretty drawing of the two fish. He didn't know what the fish looked like in real life, but the drawing was pretty whatever the case was.

"It looks wonderful, sweetie." He said, smiling kindly. "Why don't you put it on the counter so Rarity can give it to Bellicoso next time she sees Sweetie Belle?" He asked, not wanting to touch the picture and ruin it.

"Ok!" Miracle smiled, trotting off, but struggling to reach the countertop that Spike had pointed out with his tail. "Daddy, can you carry me?" She asked, startling Spike slightly. He didn't want to, but he didn't want her to get hurt trying to climb the furniture. He got up slowly, and walked over to his daughter, leaning his neck down so she could climb on, not wanting to risk hurting her with his claws, and slowly lifted her up so she could put the drawing on the counter, then letting her down. "You could have maybe burned the picture?" Miracle asked as she gingerly got down from her dad's back. "Wouldn't that send it right to Belli'?" She asked, and Spike sighed. He could have, but he didn't want to breathe fire near his daughter, the smoke could hurt her lungs or it could just turn out badly in general. Fire in the house was never a good idea.

"Yeah, but this way, Rarity gets to see your work too." Spike made a small excuse, and Miracle smiled, seeming satisfied. "She'll want to have seen it, if I just sent it to Bellicoso, she'd be mad I didn't let her see it first." He said, though it was true enough. Rarity loved seeing Miracle's work.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Yeah, you're right." Miracle said, smiling. She knew her dad was just being lazy again, but she had fun anyway, she just wished her dad would be less lazy... but she guessed drawing wasn't exactly a heavy working activity, she still wished he could do it more, or.. at all. But that was just her dad. She loved him no matter what. She didn't even draw that much, but she could tell her dad was getting bored, cause he got his 'thinking' face on, when he was just too busy thinking to pay attention to her, so she figured one drawing was enough for playtime with her dad today. He'd play more tomorrow, she was sure, especially when she got home from school.

Hello I have arrivedΒ

Miracle being unable to like, identify where her father's actions really como from simply because of innocence was done really realistically (well at least for me, the same things have happened to me and even when the answers felt obvious i couldn't identify it at all)Β

also miracle and spike look amazing in thisΒ

*pulls out a seat* Welcome; I've been expecting you!
I pulled it from my own experiences not realizing my dad was suffering from depression and yeah, you just... don't think of things unless it's stated. Especially when you're younger; hell, it took me until like this year to realize that, and I'm 18. So, you know, experience. If i was younger, there's no way in hell I could have figured it out
thank you!

The writing in this one is exquisite. It captures the innocence of a child who doesn't know the truth with an almost eerie accuracy, and the fears of someone much larger and stronger not wanting to hurt anyone or anything precious to them. All in all, amazing job Starry

StarryOak In reply to QuakingAspens [2017-10-10 04:04:28 +0000 UTC]

Really?
I kind of channeled some personal innocence in terms of knowing some stuff now about my dad that I didn't know before that seems painfully obvious in retrospect and how I internally justified it. It's like, sometimes you just don't think to think something's wrong until it's stated to you.
thank you so much, i was super worried about this falling flat, especially compared to my previous works right now for the Miracleverse
