These echoes in his eyes are the afterimages of those he has killed, as the Comet or The Lich himself; Billy, Prismo/Old Man Prismo, Gunther (Evergreen), Grob Gob Glob Grod, and Farmworld!Marceline.
I chose to draw them each in a different way, of their deaths being different.
Billy was drawn screaming as he was running away, his final actions before being murdered, skinned alive and worn as a suit.
Prismo was drawn as a shadow of his true body, Old Man Prismo, who himself was drawn while being turned to ash. The breath of The Lich burned him alive as ash poured out of his mouth, gurgling out blackened dust, crying out as every orifice collapsed and his body was turned to ash.
Gunther was drawn howling 'Gunther, no!', the very last words spoken for millions and millions of years, vaporized instantly, a release from The Crown, and the only death on this list to be mercifully quick.
Grob Gob Glob Grod was drawn screaming as they saw the false Comet in their eyes, their last vision before being burned alive, their entire body destroyed, leaving behind only their helmet.
Farmworld!Marceline was drawn melting into the sludge, as her flesh sloughed off of her in the radioactive pool, screaming in agony.
