irc friend told me to do it. i caved. TIME FOR WALL OF TEXT EXPLINATION

POKEMON -- clearly a huge influence. if it weren't for pokemon, i probably never would have started drawing in the first place. my old sketchbooks are filled to the brim with pokemon and fakemon alike (though the latter was mostly pikachus with different hats). obviously it still influences me today. i saw the anime before i ever owned a game, and it was the first game i ever owned as well. it's pretty damn influential, hence why it takes up 293848% of the screen

CALVIN AND HOBBES -- who doesn't love this comic? as far as awesome art is concerned, go no further. the amazing landscapes in the spaceman spiff comics, the hyperreal dinosaurs in calvin's imagination, the humor and the emotion (baby raccoon ;____; ) all make for a fantastic comic. i think all comic artists should take notes from this awesome dude.

K.C. GREEN -- some of the funniest shit i've ever read, fantastic expressions, and the inventor of dickbutt. the guy has a great sense of humor and does great comics. what more is there to say?

LAURENCE WATT-EVANS -- author of the Obsidian Chronicles, some of the most wonderful books i've ever read. they have a great story, are wonderfully written, and have a great sort of 'twist' in the main character's personality near the end, almost; is what he's doing really the RIGHT thing to do, or is he really just doing it for revenge? i want to read them again but no bookstore anywhere around is selling the third one goddamnit

D.N.ANGEL -- one of the first manga i ever owned, back during my weeaboo phase. also the first pairing i ever shipped, daisuke x satoshi. hawt

no really, i had no idea gay existed pretty much until i saw how obsessed satoshi was with daisuke. and how womanly daisuke was.

HARRY POTTER -- big fantasy influence, and one of my favorite series growing up, alongside the Redwall series and the Animorphs series. i've grown up with the characters, as most fans have, and can't really outgrow something so close, y'know?

MUSIC -- probably should have been bigger. i don't know how many things i've been inspired to write/draw because of a simple song.

JURRASIC PARK -- dinosaurs are the shit. when i was a kid i had a shirt that had a little spot and if you pressed it, it roared. fuck yes.

TALES OF SYMPHONIA -- quite possibly the greatest storyline in a video game i've ever played. the characters were lol at times but the animation and art style really influenced me when it first came out, and it might still show a little. i love this game and still need to beat the sequel but i'm too lazy to set my wii back up hnnghghg

MY BFF JILL -- more literally, my best friend. again, probably should have been bigger. i admired her so much when i started drawing, and she was my biggest influence besides pokemon at the time. i even had her draw things for me because i had no self confidence. mind, this was in like FIRST GRADE. our styles are pretty different now but we still both draw.

NARUTO -- yes, in my weeaboo phase, i was a naruto fan. it wasn't like any show i'd really seen before, and i liked the art style and the action scenes. then there stopped being action scenes. :/

but it was more gay for the yaoi-fuel so meh

yeah i shipped narusasu hardcore. YOU WANNA FIGHT ABOUT IT

FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST -- pretty much the same as naruto; same time period, etc. but it kept being actiony and i actually really liked the characters. NINA ;_________; also the art was pretty.

LEGEND OF ZELDA -- another favorite video game series of mine. i had this huge zelda fanfic written in my head, spanning many ingame years and involving link x zelda and babbies and pretty cool storyline that involved link getting killed, zelda becoming ganondorf's wife, her reviving link and him and their kids saving hyrule. it was the shit, man. i never actually wrote it on paper, just over and over in my head. ironically enough, it was based in the ocarina of time universe, and i never actually played through the whole game.

also a huge musical influence for me. i have the ocarina of time. it broke in half and i had to glue it back together gghhg

TOUHOU -- current, prevalent fandom. the character designs are really interesting and fun to draw, and the culture around it is very interesting as well, but more importantly is the gigantic vault of music surrounding the series. so much inspiration and TALENT is put into this fandom, i can't help but enjoy it.
