Don't they pack clothes for this sort of thing? Its uncommon for a bear to go unprepared.

Wouldn't make for as interesting a drawing though...

Easily my favorite art piece from that book, it's a pleasure to finally find the artist! Players would ask "We're not wearing much in these 'mechs, what if I have to eject?" It'd show them this picture and say "Pack an enviro suit in the back of the chair, and hope you make that Piloting roll."

So glad you like it, and it's GREAT that it proved so useful for your games. As an artist AND a gamer, I always strived (strove?) to be not just pretty, but relevant ; )

It's one of my faves from the entire Battletech series. You also did the Natasha Kerensky piece in the same book didn't you? I honestly never liked the Clans much (Lyran Commonwealth, woo!) but seeing the moment that Natasha won her famous Bloodname was a scene that needed drawing.

I did do that one! And yeah, two of my all time favourites

The cooling suit's a much more advanced take on the low-tech Inner Sphere vest rig... ah, who am I kidding? I'm looking at the genetically-refined eye candy wearing the cooling suit!

Someone - I don't care who - take the poor girl prisoner and give her a parka and snow pants!

Very cool (hah!) piece of art! Really deserves to be put in that book.

Also, interesting illustration of a cooling suit. I don't think I've ever seen a picture of one before, but the description in the books sounds similar, and it just looks amazing here - especially with that little flower decoration on the right thigh; nice detail!

Thanks! It's obviously been a long time since I drew it, but I'm pretty sure I'd seen previous drawings of the suits, which I loosley based mine on..

No problem at all. Of course, if you had said something like "aaand this one is modeled off my lovely wife", I probably would have started sending hate mail.

It, um... burned up in a cockpit fire. Yeah, that's it...

Looks a little too clean.

Centurion13 In reply to SIERRA-116 [2013-01-11 08:29:45 +0000 UTC]

It's fan service. The suit can never be *too* clean with this type of picture. You're not *actually* trying to see that suit doing its job, are you?

SIERRA-116 In reply to Centurion13 [2013-01-11 09:03:04 +0000 UTC]

Well, though I can understand fan service, I prefer it when MechWarriors are fully suited.

If she was in the cockpit, I'd agree. She's not. Furthermore, I seen lotsa male Mechwarriors wearing nothin' but a coolant vest, a neurohelmet and a speedo. No one complains about *them* being underdressed. Darned if I am going to gripe about this young lady being in the same condition. Especially as she is a vision of feminine pulchritude.

Tulon In reply to Centurion13 [2013-03-01 08:44:05 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, MechWarriors generally wear as little as possible, simply because it gets *very* hot in the cockpit. It's why even men often wear hotpants there. Their clothing is not meant to protect against the cold but rather against heat.

Also, note the description regarding "cooling tubes + body stocking" here: [link]

I would say the artist is spot on in his visualization of this pilot. The fanservice is merely a bonus, but you'd actually see men wear the same thing.

If I was a Mechwarrior, I'd wear a full pilot/combat hybrid suit.

Centurion13 In reply to SIERRA-116 [2013-01-11 17:53:57 +0000 UTC]

Yes.... but would you also be a stunning vision of femininity? With a gazillion young men's eyeballs following your every (scantily clad) move? That - THAT - is the question, sir or ma'am. If you were a Mechwarrior, you would be living in a game designed in the mid-1980s. You would be at the whim of the artist!

This artist's taste in revealing cockpit wear suit me juuuuussst fine.

If I was a MechWarrior, it'd be in my own original unit, the 3rd Hellraiser Dragoons.

Hard to imagine a Ghost Bear warrior feeling chilly, even in full Mechwarrior garb.

Love this one, too.
