He became one. He was a Viennese and a war refugee. Glad you like.

Who could ever thought the city will change so much in time? Or maybe is the people who changed?... Btw, great shot! It reminds me of my dad who had a Russian camera in the early 70's and took many photos of me when I was a kid. I miss my dad...the whole world has changed since he left.

Thanks so much. My father used an early Rolleiflex for that shot. Unfortunately, movers lost his album of negatives from Europe, so this print is it. He was a trained photographer.
Some of the Russian cameras are wonderful. Here's to our fathers.

Thank you! Sometimes I have this feeling our ancestors knew how to live...
I always wanted a Rolleiflex. I remember I was around 6 years old and I used to play with in my grandfather's basement and there was a broken Rolleicord. That is really ancient history now.

My father never officially "gave" me his Rolleiflex, until the end. It was (is) a truly fine instrument.
I always wanted a Hasseblad, in fact. I've heard about the Rolleicord. They're still around.
I agree that the quality of life was greater in past decades. By far.

Rolleicord (and Rolleiflex) are expensive in the UK last time I checked the prices. And I worry for their condition: too many years past, too many hands touched their parts not to say only a few were professionals.
I agree with you but you know people today say the opposite that life is better (easier) today and it was harder in the past. Obviously they forgot you have to work hard and with a high purpose(!) in order (to deserve) to understand what life is all about. I would say people were more conscious in the past; today...they are just brainwashed.

This seems to be true. We're a bit too dependent on a myriad of gadgets -- the sale of which supports giant corporations. I feel sad when I see people only drawing out phones to take pictures of meaningful things. Brainwashed.

Thank you very much. I like the cotheslines too. I think he was struck by how "old" New York was.

In the constant revolution that is a city, its easy to do...it was another world then, in more ways than one!
