Is it just my impression or is the random kid annoyed by Alex?

Maybe, She's not always the best at picking up on that kind of thing >_>

Lol, I didn't think the kid looked like a drug dealer

He just looks like he doesn't know what to make of her.

He doesn't look like a drug dealer as they can look like just about anything. He just looks like a slightly older boy waiting for say the same bus Alex is.
She's probably going into or out of town?

I'm still trying to decide if Alex walks/bikes to school, or takes the bus... maybe a bit of both

Both makes more sense. Heck I used a number of methods. Never got much into biking as the terrain where I live if for enthusiasts, not casual commuters or kids, but often walked more so the bus or cable car. Still walk too work today (last night in a thunderstorm!) and got the bus home.
Heck what's wrong with getting a lift in a car now and then also? After say a couple of hours of after school sports, the last thing I'd want is doing much on my worn out legs. Maybe her dad (or whatever she calls him) coming home from work? If Friday night they can get takeaways for dinner!

She probably usually goes to a bus stop, or just bikes the whole way if she's feeling in the mood, but relies on the bus, and maybe occasionally rides in the truck when there's a meter of snow on the ground >_>

Yeah, it's fairly flat out there so biking won't exhaust the living daylights out of her... where I live it can tire all but the most hard-core bikers.
Yeah, not the type for taking the easy way and getting a ride.

Alex: It's kinda hilly in a few places, dad says the glaciers just barely got this far south, so we're on the edge between the plains with lots of lakes and the creeks through the valleys that go down to the Mississippi ^^

Me: Not like hills back where I live, then I live right where the Pacific plate and the Indio-Australian plate are crushing into each other, hills all over the place... and the earthquakes... only a matter of time before the "big one" hits again.
There was a big one further south in Christchurch 2011, my dad was there on business, grabbed the wine bottle and didn't spill a drop! Though 185 others weren't so lucky.

Alex: Wow, Intrestin'... I've never felt an earthquake, but I have climbed to the top of the tallest mountain in Minnesota ^^ reubenscube.net/wp-content/upl…

Beautiful, but that's just a bump!
Well quakes are an experience, the worst I've been in a bookshelf tippers but scary none the less.
