Have you noticed that virtually ALL of the non-native Anglophone users on Deviantart write in excellent English? It's amazing! Your English is flawless from what I've seen. Maybe artists (even amateurs) are better with language? Who knows?

I think it's mostly because we've always been told "you MUST learn English at school if you want a job" when we were kids, when anglophones must have been told "you must... sit here and wait til THEY learn your language" hahhaha

I know you're right about why English was stressed so heavily in school - and this was before the widespread use of the Internet! It's good that there is a "common language" and VERY convenient for anglophones. As you know, there are wonderful things about every culture, and many anglophones miss out on those wonderful things. I studied several languages in college, so, I was exposed to different values than I was familiar with. I believe this helped me understand the world better. One thing I believe is absolutely universal, regardless of language and culture - people just want to be understood.
