Description
...That never will be told.After Queen Eclipsa fled with her monstrous lover, the Kingdom of Mewni was left unstable, always in danger of being attacked. Their only hope was an alliance with a neighboured kingdom. So the 14-year-old, freshly crowned Queen Celena decided to marry the prince of said kingdom, to ensure the security of her people. When she and her new husband entered the sleeping dorm that night and he lifted the veil, he learned about the "trove of cosmic secrets" Celena had been hiding for so long....
~~~~~~~~~~
Whew, that was some piece of work. Especially the background (which, to be fair, is a recolor of Star's bedroom with a candle being added). The shadowing wasn't easy either, but well... yay, background? Yay, shadows?
A few comments on the artistic choices:
Celena's cheekmarks are eyes with crescent moons. I like the thought of her having crescent moon-cheekmarks, so I decided to add them inside the eyes. May be a little unconventional, but I think they turned out fine.
Making that scene a scene of her wedding night was actually not intended at first! But while I colored it, I realized she looks pretty neat in a white dress, so the idea of it being her wedding dress popped up. Coloring it partly blue was an idea of a friend of mine (thanks Zora!) because I wasn't sure what color I should pick (before the whole wedding-theme came up). I wanted her to wear something "royal" she's obviously not comfortable with. Blue as the color of royalty (and the color of Virgin Mary) seems like the right choice. Also, it mixes up well with the moons on her dress.
I had to redo the skirt four times, because at first it was too slim and then it was too short - she basically floated, since her feet were not seen. Thanks again Zora, for pointing that out.
I wanted to add her veil somewhere in the background, but it seemed horribly off to me. In my head, her horns were hid behind a tiara (with some neat rose elements), the veil covered her face and... pretty much all of her body was covered in that veil. Royalty, everybody!
I don't like her skin pattern on the arm - it looks like scars to me. But I think it's clear what I intended with that.
I know, her fan is a little small, but I didn't want to redo it (believe me, it's quite hard to draw). You can't see the wand behind it, because (in my headcanon) it's only seen when the fan is completely opened.
The colors of her room are directly taken from her tapestry. The floral elements on the bed were an addition by me.
Not sure wether I got her hair right, but I didn't like it being all pink (it didn't go well with the blue on her dress), so it has a slight blond-ish touch. Maybe it's just the candle light.
(And yes, I know, Celena is Star's great-great-grandma, so it doesn't fit completely with Eclipsa being her mother, so.... hooray for artistic liberty? But then again, we don't know how long Celena reigned - after all, we don't know about the average life spawn of people on Mewni (or monsters) - so I think it could still work.)
Okay, why do I ALWAYS draw characters in sad or insecure mood? x.x I'll have to change that. Next will be a Star vs. The Forces of Evil/MLP:FiM-Crossover featuring two characters with quite similar name, so stay tuned!
Oh, btw.: What do you think how Celena's husband reacted to seeing her unveiled? Let me know in the comments!
Edit: Okay, I've realized her hair is much blonder than in the usual depictions. Maybe I'll make an updated version one day. - But not now. xD
Even thought Celena and Eclipsa are two far apart in the time-line for this idea.
I do love the concept & wished they used something like for Festivia.
Thank you! Yeah, I know.
Yeah, I had hoped for something like that too when I saw it in the promo. But I think the Meteora-stuff is fine too.
I like the Meteora-stuff fine.
My problem is the village girl switch story line with Festivia. There were theories after Meteora was reviled that Festivia was going to be Eclipsa's daughter. Some saying she was a hybrid, others pure Mewman. But imagine learning Festivia was a hybrid as well, but "normal" enough to take the thrown. Image the fear she would have lived in, knowing one mistake against what the king and the council wants of her, and she'll be abandon as easily as her sister. I think that would have been fair more interesting.
Thank you!
Yeah. Though I think Heinous/Meteora as Eclipa's daughter is just as cool.
