Description

I read Emiko Inagaki's book "家事か地獄か" ("Housework or Hell") and it was really fascinating. I had been feeling a bit anxious about the "2 million yen retirement problem," but somehow, I feel relieved now.

Emiko Inagaki is a person who, despite having a cluttered and storage-filled apartment, moved from there to a small one-room apartment, getting rid of over 90% of her belongings, including the washing machine and refrigerator.

In essence, the book talks about how there is no limit to the money required to fulfill desires, but by simplifying life, one can live happily, healthily, and creatively, with plenty of time to pursue one's interests without spending a lot of money.

For instance, she suggests having only 10 sets of clothes and not needing bath towels, as a single towel would suffice.

Regarding meals, all one needs is brown rice, miso soup, and one additional dish.

It's a bit different from what is known as minimalism, more akin to the simplicity of the "Edo period" (laughs). Well, I highly recommend reading it. I believe it's packed with wisdom for navigating through a period of low economic growth.
