At first she could not sense anything, but slowly Rebantee felt life returning to her mate. His eyelids flickered as consciousness returned and at last he looked up into the joyful face of his lover. Xan picked himself up, standing shakily on his four unfamiliar legs, his new tail curling and grasping as his instincts adapted. Rebantee could hold back no longer, laughing out loud as she knelt beside her love and wrapped her arms around his neck. Xan smiled and entwined his tail with that of his mate, as his life force grew stronger and stronger with each second, fuelled by the magic of Rebantee’s gods. He was her reward for aeons of loyal service and together they would guard the temple for the rest of time.
