Description
This is an abstract painting I've been noodling with, on and off, for a while now.Usually, it's my intention to eventually lock something like this down to a more literal image, but in this case it seemed to look interesting enough as is (at least to me it did!)
This image is built up with many many layers, and it incorporates a lot of different techniques from brush painting to custom shapes to layer masks.
If it somehow conveys large scale, and has a vaguely sci-fi feeling, that was the intent

Hi Steve, I'm tellin ya, your texturing technique has reached such a high level. I love it. I know you most likely intended fr this piece to represent some kind of space scene but I personally enjoy pretending it is an underwater scene. Great stuff Steve.

Thanks! Good to hear from you again!
I froze the process on this one while it was still in the abstract stage, so it can really be anything you might imagine. Underwater, or... someplace... unknown

Wonderful work. It gives off a cold and dead feeling. It's kind of like a cavern of crystal ruins out in space. It seems like there could be danger lurking around there, so it gives off a feeling of fear as well.

Thanks! I also get a very ominous feeling from the image. Although some people have commented it seems peaceful. It's interesting to get the different reactions.
In my mind... this is a dangerous place

Intent>mission accomplished!
Although I donΒ΄t really like that one.I HATE abstract stuff...no offends of course, thatΒ΄s just a question of taste..
Anyway it DOES look interesting, donΒ΄t get me wrong, perhaps IΒ΄d even like it if it wasnΒ΄t so dark and cold..Too me it looks quite spooky,a place evil aliens dwell...like Commorragh.

Thanks for the feedback!
I didn't used to like abstract stuff either For me, it came gradually over time.
To me, the picture is definitely frightening, but it's interesting to see different reactions people have!
I wasn't familiar with Commorragh, but I "googled" it. I see your point, it looks like a nasty place!

It is the NASTIEST place.
Outside of hell.
And other places.
ThereΒ΄s many nasty places in the Warhammer 40.000 Galaxy, when you come to think of it,but the Commorragh is definitely one I can only spell out loud with my Darth Vader voice.

I guess it's what I call a "zero-gee" picture (I actually didn't look at it upside down... must try that!)

"zero-gee"? does that mean you dont rate it much?... I did a painting of a space scape for a friend a while back, he has it on his wall and told me he rotates it on its side or upside-down every couple of months, said its like having four paintings in one!! I should have billed him four times the price lol

"zero gee" (zero gravity) is outer space - no up or down. Space pictures are often "zero-gee" - definitely not like a normal landscape

Oh the ones that are really at "zero" never show up online. I've got a mountain of them!

With abstract art, each viewer has their own perception. I wouldn't have thought of Batman, but to me it's interesting! I can see it
