Description
This is a concept page of various views for one of the vehicles designed for "Tiberium".The vehicles were largely designed in 3D, which allowed for them to be used in numerous concept illustrations of other scenes without the need to redraw them.
3D is a very powerful and effective design tool I have been using extensively for a number of years now.

Woo-hoo! Thanks Steve. Very cool design. Nice to see it from more views. I didn't realize it was an open-top vehicle. I guess that works well from the gaming standpoint for getting characters in and out quickly. I can see the "turtle" similarity, now Neat cockpit config. And those wheels.... again, I wish the Landmaster had looked this cool!

The open top was because as the player you ride out of the base into the environment, and we wanted to have unobstructed view.
Just be sure to take those anti-radiation tablets !

interesting, I actually drove a HEMTT for the US Army for 3 years. the bumpyest stiffest ride y9u could possibly imagine lol. your concept looks quite a bit more versatile (and comfortable lol)

I've sat in a real HEMTT - comfort is about the last thing that comes to mind
But I do love those big trucks with giant wheels!

It is owned by Electronic Arts. I can only show images in portfolio

Yeah, it begs the question Steve: who owns rights on these designs? Did they revert back to you, or are you just entitled to "portfolio use" on 'em?

I can show portfolio examples. All content is owned by the employer.
However I retain ownership of my brain - and I can make more !

That is one cool things about all them new fangled computer-o-thingies that all the kids are into these days, using the wifis to play their Facebook and the like... In the past when you made a visual design creation, the only way to really share it (actively) with others was to hope they made a toy or miniature of it. But 3D's thrown that limit out the window, letting you share a design with anyone who's got the right 3D playground to use it. Again, the internet is the great equalizer
But that said, if Tamiya came out with a plastic kit of your Turtle in 1/35th, I'd still be all over it

I'd buy it too. Very nice design. Should be a smooth ride with that type of suspension.
I wish the model companies would do more Sci-Fi stuff. But now that I do 3d, I can build what ever model I want, not just what I can buy off the shelf.

That's why I like 3D, and art in general. It's always an uphill battle to get companies (of any kind) to take a chance on an original concept. In 3D and digital art, it's real freedom !

I'm with you!
And your models take up so much less space. They don't collect dust. The kids cant "play" with them and destroy them. Damn. Now I want to go buy a model and build it. There is still something to be said for crafting the model with your own two hands though.

I agree with you! An actual physical model is real - while digital art still has to be looked at on a screen.

I will not say much ... I love the concept of the vehicle. One question. In which you base to create that type of wheel. ?

steve-burg In reply to angelitoon [2010-09-02 07:52:22 +0000 UTC]
I did a small pencil sketch for the vehicle. Originally it had legs, like a crab. But that was not possible for technical limitations.
We also had other vehicles with similar heavy wheels, like construction vehicles in the present day. But for this vehicle, the wheels retain the slight feeling of "legs" and they can flex in their animation across the ground.

It is a great design. Based on the classic heavy vehicle. A good transformation.

I don't know what Tiberium is, but I want that truck.
Aw hell, I want half of the stuff I see in concept art. DAMN YOU CONCEPT TECH STUFF! WHY CAN'T YOU BE REAL?
and affordable on my income. that would also be nice.

I hear you! I want it too - that's why I feel the need to do this kind of artwork.
Maybe someday some of these things will become real - who knows?
