Description So I recently discovered an old and very underappreciated alternate history game called Shattered Union. It takes place in an alternate USA in 2018 during the Second American Civil War. The war started because the most unpopular president was elected. So I thought that sounded familiar, too familiar, and created an unofficial sequel that takes place in a different timeline but under similar circumstances based on our timeline. Basically, Donald Trumps win in 2017 does spark the Second American Civil War with California being the first to succeed with Clexit. Eventually, the rift between the Liberals and Conservatives gets so bad that open fighting breaks out across the country and lines are drawn. So let me break down each faction from the right to the left respectively.

National Defense Alliance
Capital: Boston
Government: Citizen Martial Democracy
Bio: Born out of fear of Canadian/European invasion, a rouge military unit known as the "New Minute Men" amassed an army of deserters and citizen soldiers and revolted against the federal military. After driving out the federal forces the NMM install a Starship Troopers style government and immediately begin mobilizing for war.

United States of America
Capital: Washington D.C(Former), Philadelphia(De Facto), New York(Unofficial)
Government: Plutocratic Kakistocracy/Martial Law
Bio: After a horrible election and the nuking of Washington D.C, the remaining federal government soldiers evacuated the members of congress and the president to a bunker in Philadelphia. In an effort to restore order to the USA, the EU sent multiple units of "Peace Troops" to the USA to keep the president and congress in power.

New Confederate States
Capital: Montgomery
Government: Representative Democracy
Bio: After years of screaming "The South shall rise again!" the rebels to be finally turned their words into action and formed a new confederacy in the image of the old one... but with better weapons. Due to the radiation emanating from Washington D.C, the capital was relocated to the deep south of Alabama. Oh yeah, and slavery and racism is totally a thing in the New Confederate States.

Free State of Florida
Capital:Β Tallahassee
Government: Direct Democracy
Bio: Refusing to yield to the New Confederacy and never surrendering to the demands of the federal government/occupying EU forces nor the invading Russians, Florida decided it would stand alone against the world.

Greater Texas
Capital: Austin
Government: Military Junta
Bio: Being the size of most European countries, having access to the sea, having a decent military presence and maintaining a decent economy, Texas had no problem being on it's own. In fact, some of it's neighbors shared their confidence and joined Texas in a greater union, one that would even rival the strength of the former USA.

New Mexican Empire
Capital: Albuquerque
Government: Constitutional Monarchy
Bio: When the cartel threatened the people of New Mexico after the collapse of the union, the Mexicans who found themselves in the United States finally had enough and decided to fight back. Taking inspiration from the imperials of old, the citizens armed themselves to the teeth and swore to never let anyone harm them ever again, mexican or american.

Democratic Union of California
Capital: Sacramento
Government: Socialist Democracy
Bio: It came to no surprise to anyone that California would be the first to succeed from the Union after the election of 2017. Well, there where people who doubted them and scoffed at the notion, but now California stands as one of the most powerful nations in North America.

Pacifica Federation
Capital: Seattle
Government: Non-Partisan Democratic-Republic
Bio: Formed out of desperation from Euro, African and Native american refugees, the Pacifica Federation stands at the edge of a collapsing world.

Great Lakes Republic
Capital: Toledo
Government: Representative Council
Bio: A nation of that has stood against the threats of the old world must do so once again, only this time, they stand alone.

Kingdom of Hawaii
Capital: Honolulu
Government: Constitutional Monarchy
Bio: Though almost completely reliant on Japanese aid, the Kingdom of Hawaii has finally broken the chains of American oppression and crowned a new queen. But now alone in the modern world, can Hawaii fend of the revolutionaries in North America or keep their sovereignty from other foreign powers? Only time will tell.

Russian Alaska
Capital: Anchorage(Occupational HQ), Moscow
Government: Martial Law/Presidential Dictatorship
Bio: With her rival in shambles, Russia elected he who shall not be named for life and became a totalitarian military state. Russia then used the Second American Civil War to take back Alaska and use it as a base of operations for a nation wide invasion.

Had a idea for a new adaptation of this games plot too, but as more of a political drama set in an alternate history where the unpopular president was elected after Reagan suffered a heart attack mid-term and had to be replaced quickly. Leading to the Civil War in the 80's and 90's.

It would begin in the Mid-2000's with Civil War being over a few years how the people of the Continent would deal with being no longer united after so long and the leaders in power dealing with not only their new Neighbors but their own people too.Β

Interesting, I must say. I think yours is more closer aligned with the actual Shattered Union cannon than mine, that's for sure. I've gotta read this, it looks really interesting! Mine is more or less poking fun at the current political atmosphere of the USA with the Shattered Union mythos being the backdrop/inspiration. I didn't put nearly as much effort into the bios as I wanted to so I'll probably redo them later on. I hope they remaster the game, It's hard to find good alternate history games that focus on the grander picture.

I would but that would take forever, which is why I made the images big so in case anyone wanted them separately they could just cut them out without them being too low resolution.
