Hahhaha!!! Noobs, My advice would be "Practice, Practice, Practice!!!" and it shouldn't be too hard because your hands are right in front of you at all times!!! But I like the advice you give with drawing the "buckles", I alway have trouble with those. My hand (whithout my fingers) is shaped like a hexagon!! like a honeycomb!! And WHAT THE HELL IS THAT CRAZY PEN YOU USE????? That's the weirdest thing I've seen!!!

Don't you get sick of people asking that every time you use it... couldnt they just read the other annotations for useful info, or watch the tut where you introduced it... *slaps forehead*

Yelling in a video is one thing, yelling at a person is another, lol So that's your judgment call on that one

dude chill! cheers for the help but don't assume we're all lazy!
i study anatomy constantly , changing my ways of drawing things coming up with new formulas all the time, practicaing different positions and crap...
But yeah I guess there are people that wnat to be good at it just like that. But still...

Cute, but this was aimed at those who ARE LAZY and if that's not you then guess what, That's awesome! Those who really wanna draw sometimes need a swift wake up call and I'm sure they'll agree with me on that 'cause I use to be like them. So yeah, it's good to yell a bit, gets them eager to want it more.
Thanks for the concern though

I'm curious about the lead holder and size lead you're using (looks like a 3.15 mm lead?)
Also, sharpen that thing! LOL!

StevenSanchez In reply to MJTannacore [2008-05-01 12:00:09 +0000 UTC]
U don't sharpen it, it's suppose to be round. And yes the size is about right

MJTannacore In reply to StevenSanchez [2008-05-01 20:11:11 +0000 UTC]
Is there no way to sharpen it at all? Is that the creatacolor holder? I know the good ones come with built in sharpeners (I have the cheapie version with no sharpener and a lot of frustration). Dull pencils is one of my little peeves (that and people who leave pens open/uncapped when not using them) so don't mind me

I saw an artist on youtube (forget his name now) but he used a sand paper pad to sharpen it the lead. He'd draw pretty detailed portraits of people that way. He's a real old guy, and he could draw really fast. I guess it's just a different method.

I actually did find some regular sharpeners for that size (5.6-6mm) online. I'm going to pick one up for my clutch pencil (as well as a sharpener for my 3.15mm shorty) But yeah, I see that sandpaper or even carving/exacto knives are the 'sharpener' of choice for many older artists.

The Clutch Pencil Holder holds a thick lead for bigger jobs, not really meant for small detail work. I like using it for quick sketching only.

You're right, you really need to be hard on people who just say they can't do it or purposely avoid it.
I've recently been forcing myself to do things I don't like to do. Even if I don't like how it comes out the practice helps.

hey, great tutorial. just happened to come across it, and it's actually helpful, unlike a lot of tutorials. oddly, i never noticed the square thing before, i usually just draw them as ovals, cause that's how i was taught. but that would explain why the shape always turns out weird. i like the whole claw idea too, maybe it'll help me to keep from drawing my fingers so dang fat. I'm just starting with the human figure, because it's something I'm not that great at so i'm trying to learn it, and hands/feet have been driving me absolutely mad! thanks for putting this up, it's a lot more helpful to watch someone draw than to look at pictures.

I really appreciate that you do these tutorials. They are to-the-point and on topics I need to work on. You make it look so easy. It's still not easy for me but I do see improvement the more I set aside time for drawing every day. You're work remarkable!

Yo San I was gonna send u this link before but forgot.
Its an awesome practice tool I've used.
You basically set any time u want to sketch out a pose and the image changes on its own, plus its all in muscle.
here is the link
[link]
Thought Id throw it out there so u can spread it around. It makes for great practice.

You have nice sketch work, but remember, don't OVER-SKETCH! Meaning going over the same line a whole mess of times, draw the line and jump onto the next part, you'll sketch faster and don't worry as much! Good sketches on your page!

Mr-Satan In reply to StevenSanchez [2008-04-19 03:16:05 +0000 UTC]
Thank you. I tend to over sketch. I know that's another habit I've been trying to kick. I go right to the dark rendering lines, instead of the light lines I'm supposed to use. T_T I'm so ashamed.
