the muscle is called the deltoid... yeah, kind of a delayed response, but i was just watchin this and following how you drew... so yeah, deltoid.

Jackalopette [2008-04-24 19:43:32 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, and your stylistic way works pretty well too, because not everyone has perfectly chiseled abs like you drew on the left. Not every character needs abs that look like they're about to explode out of their chest! It's ok to make your characters look... well... average!

Ok, so so far I've watched pretty much all of your tutorials. Awesome job here. It's pretty helpful even just to kind of see the motions of the pencil and it kind of livens it up compared to reading books. Not that books are bad, but this stuff is great.

Just a quick question. You did torsos here, but are you going to go over the back, like the back muscles or anything at some point? I know that's one major area I struggle with, so it would be cool to see something like that.

Yes, Back muscles will come soon enough. Keep sketching

I'm really digging the style of these tutorials. most of the instructional content of the internet is aimed at the painfully untrained. Your stuff is perfect for people that have been drawing for a while but need to polish up their work. Rock on Man!

BenWolfson [2008-04-18 04:52:46 +0000 UTC]

While I plan on eyeballing my proportions as you suggest, can I ask what lengths I should use just as a starting crutch?

I’m guessing the ribcage, stomach, upper arm, forearm, pelvis, shin and thigh are all roughly one heads height in length. But I’m not so sure on the neck. >_>

Until the female tutorial is released, do you have any advice for the alterations from male I should keep in mind, aside the obvious of narrowing the waist and adding breasts? <_<

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

StevenSanchez In reply to BenWolfson [2008-04-18 13:07:10 +0000 UTC]

Okay, I understand the whole tech-specs notion here, STOP IT! Don't think in terms of how many heads, that's for those going for that 100% PERFECTION LOOK. Sketch your heart out and HAVE FUN!!!! What's the use of drawing when you have to follow tight rules? Rules are important but you can't enforce them all.

So stay away from the whole head height crap, it's just another way that your artwork will look stiff in the long run 'cause you just had to get everything perfect.

So sketch it out, eye ball it and have FUN!!! Now if you wanna tip on how to keep certain area's of the same length, use your pencil, here's how you do that. Measure lets say the guys arm, now from the point of the pencil to wherever the guys arm ends that's the length, use that as a guide and go over to where the other arm will be and mark it on the paper. If you don't understand that, that's fine, I'll talk about it in my next vid.

But just sketch and don't worry about measuring too much okay. You'll be that much more happier for not over thinking on a sketch

I'll try. Never been real good at eyeballing, myself <<;;

BenWolfson In reply to StevenSanchez [2008-04-21 07:26:05 +0000 UTC]

Right.
Quick question: What about the hips?

I think I'm getting a good grasp of the parts, but I've no idea on the hips aside from what I'm making up at the moment >>;;

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

StevenSanchez In reply to BenWolfson [2008-04-21 11:58:56 +0000 UTC]

Look for models here on DA and you show me what you can do with HIPS. Ref those images and lets see what you come up with. Then I'll let you know.

I guess I need to start sketching body parts. I always do a full body when I sketch.
Thank you.
