Description
Cloudburst casually strolled through the SugarCube Corner doors and delighted in the familiar chime of the shopkeeper bell. The bakery was always filled to the brim with the delightful aroma of sugary sweets...sweets that she would shamelessly indulge in while watching the RuPaws Horse Race marathon. The problem was that it was about 12 at night and the SugarCube Corner was most definitely closed, but she knew that PB's parents were out and that he loved staying up past his bedtime (which he still had for some reason?) whenever they were gone. With that in mind, she strolled up to the counter and jumped up to ring the bell.

And so she waited.

And waited.

And waited some more.

"....." Cloudburst hopped up once more, this time grabbing the bell of the counter and began mashing the button obnoxiously. "Butterboooooy, get down here, I need some of those cake pops and macadamia cookies!!" she drawled over the irritating noise of clashing metal. "Butterboooooy, Peanutface, Nutbutt--"

It was then that a hand over the counter snatched her wrist and squeezed with such force that the bell dropped to the floor with a final choked jingle. She hadn't even heard them come down from the second floor! Before she even knew what was happening, she was yanked up face to face with....hoooo Celestia above in Canterlot, she was such a pretty unicorn with shadows under her eyes and an overall dark aura about her. But most of all, she looked incredibly pissed.

"...Hi," Cloudburst greeted dully and did her best to ignore her increasing heart rate. This mare looked like she would kill her in one foul swoop.

"What are you doing in a bakery at midnight," the pink horse hissed through her teeth and pulled Cloudburst closer to peer into her soul.

"I could ask you the same thing, really, considering you're not a Pie."

"I'm taking over for PB tomorrow. He went with his parents to their little baking show or whatever. Did he not tell you?"

Cloudburst gulped and gave a bashful smile. It was entirely possible that he told her but at the time she was too invested in the plot of My Horse Academia to get all the details.

"Uh...maybe?"

"..."

The unicorn dropped her without a second thought and dusted her hands off. "Well. I already got up and you're already here, so what do you want?" she asked in her wonderful monotone voice and slipped on some latex gloves to prepare the snacks.

"I practically screamed it earlier, but some cake pops and--" Cloudburst began, but came to an alarmed halt. She perked up her ears, hearing something from upstairs. A very familiar slogan. "RuPaw's DragRace-- may the best pony (the best pony) win!"

"Are...are you watching RuPaw?" she whispered, barely able to contain the excitement bubbling in her voice. Then again, her excitement didn't sound like a lot.

The unicorn, however, did not seem so excited and went rigid mid-snack-bag-packing. She gave Cloudburst a bit of a death glare, but was also seemed...embarrassed?

"....Maybe I was," she muttered, barely audible. But that was all the confirmation Cloudburst needed rush up to this new friend and grin all up in her face.

"Are you for real? On god? Deadass?"

"...Well, I said MAYBE."

"Listen here... how about I take those snacks, you get your own, we go upstairs, and we watch the rest of that marathon together."

"You were watching the marathon too?"

"DUH, but I was really craving some sweets--plus I've already seen all the episodes--so I came down to the Corner....but now looks like I won't have to make the fly back to where I'm staying..." The pegasus battered her crusty, tired eyes as sweetly as she could and gave a smug smirk. "...Riiiiight? Pretty please? Miss...?"

"...Midnight Abyss," Midnight replied and started to pack more into the plastic snack bag, things that Cloudburst hadn't requested. "And...you know what, come on up. I need someone to talk to about Equestria Lee Fontaine's outfits, and that commercial break isn't going to last forever."

"Aw hell yeah, we're gonna have so much shit to talk about," Cloudburst chuckled and stretched. "Let's get this show on the road!"

"Only if you promise not to tell anyone, because if you do I'll put a curse on you that'll make you shrink so much that you won't even be able to hold another piece of candy in your life," Midnight threatened in the smoothest, most unassuming one-note tone. The pegasus blinked.

"Well, it doesn't sound too different from my daily life, but I Pinkie Swear," she declared with confidence and held out her finger. The unicorn gave an amused snort and held out her own. After a firm shake they made their way towards the stairs.

"What was your name again?" Midnight asked and watched the pegasus trot happily up the stairs, snacks in hand.

"Cloudburst! PB has really never told you about me?"

"Well, when he said a little gremlin sometimes broke into his house in the late hours to steal his snacks, I imagined something a little more...dangerous. And brewable."

Cloudburst couldn't help but laugh. "I can definitely see why he'd call me that. But you'll see I'm not so bad once you get up here and binge some candy and TV with me."

Midnight Abyss rolled her eyes good-naturedly and followed her up the steps. It seemed tonight wasn't going to be as boring as she thought.

WOOOO yet another birthday present, this time for my friend Lopoddity !! when you said you wanted a fic i was like dammit.... first was just going to do the picture and then i got...carried away, as it were LMAO

i want to thank you for being a constant support, i love chatting with you because youre hilarious and you never fail to impress me with your work. i love arguing about the continuity errors of [insert children's show here] at [inappropiate time of night] with you and if we're left unchecked we can go on for hours about anything LOL so thanks for all those times, hope you have a great birthday my fellow floridian!!! dont let the gators bite and get yourself something good from publix
