Description
Seriously, I've said this before. I don't care how bad your drawings are. Everyone starts out like crap at some point- it's just the way things are."I'm not a good artist" isn't an excuse to post traced work on the internet. Guess why? You don't have to post art at all, for one thing. It's not required.
And in the end, posting traces makes you look pathetic.
Posting your own art is honest, and taking critique on it shows you're determined and willing to learn.
Just tracing picture after picture shows all you want is an easy way to get pats on the back!
Are you against tracing? Join our club and help us stop tracing on deviantART.

It IS art theft. The art theft traced over something that the original artist put their blood and sweat on it. So how about if you worked on something for so long, and you're proud of it, the next day you see it's stolen and/or traced? How will you feel?
If you trace art; you're not original, I mean it's okay to reference, but tracing? HELL TO THE NO! I'd rather be a crappy artist, rather than steal someone's hard work.
And being a crappy artist is not bad at all. "Sucking at something is the first step to become sorta good at something." -Jake the Dog.

Clearly? You didn't even make your comment clear. ...Screenshots? Or do you mean references?

GrimtalesRachel In reply to MangoHoodie [2013-10-18 11:20:33 +0000 UTC]
No.Screenshots.It is sad and it is art theft if you do steal another artist's drawings, but screenshots from shows and bases from shows are ok.

MangoHoodie In reply to GrimtalesRachel [2013-10-18 11:23:00 +0000 UTC]
No, screenshots are not meant to be traced; they're not a base, yet again, a company had worked their butt off on that. Sigh, that still shows laziness. :/

Just tell me how "tracing" is not stealing? (If the tracer credits the owner, that is not stealing.)

I agree with this stamp, but I can see that many people do not just because this is called deviantART, so they will say that crappy art is just as bad as stolen art.

Yep, but they forget the first part of "deviantart" XD. So 'deviant' can mean that each differs. In style, quality, etc. :3.

Hit the nail on the head and buried it in the plank. All good points I can get behind. Especially that small, easily bypassed, but crucial point: you don't have to post any art in the first place. You can be a great part of the community just by talking about the art there is. And those are empty pats on the back you get for posting something someone else should have the credit for.
I'm still just kinda fooling around with my art. But I'm a lot better than 4 years ago when I joined, and I feel like what I put out is bits of me, all mine, and that makes me feel great.
(Compare this to the feeling I got, even as a 10 years old kid, when tracing comic panels and copying others' jokes... I didn't know why, but I felt how lacking it was.)

oh my... You may be an crappy artist, but if you do it all yourself, you may have the chance to improve! So you can be better some time! But if you trace, you steal art, you maybe lie and tell its your art and youll NEVER improve! everyone starts with crappy art, but we all improve and maybe will be of good standing! But if you steal art, youll always face hate! Rly, I HATE tracing!
