Description Seeing that I redesigned my grass type starters for the Australian Pokémon region, I went on to do the same for my fire type line. So here is Charcoil and it's evolution family!

Nowra Pokédex No. 004
Charcoil (from charcoal+coil)
Fire Snake Pokémon
Type: Fire
HT: 2'04"/0.7m
WT: 16.8lbs/7.6kg
Ability: Blaze (Hidden Ability: Shed Skin)
Pokédex Entry 1: Charcoil slither around hunting for small Pokémon. The flames on their necks protect them from bird Pokémon looking to catch one of them.
Pokédex Entry 2: Charcoil expels small embers from its tongue which singe the grass whenever it tries to smell or taste. It can control how brightly its flames burn.

Nowra Pokédex No. 005
Pyrethon (from pyre+python)
Fire Snake Pokémon
HT: 6'07"/2m
WT: 45lbs/20.4kg
Ability: Blaze (Hidden Ability: Shed Skin)
Pokédex Entry 1: By wrapping its body around prey and igniting its scales, Pyrethon essentially cooks its food. Enemies are unable to escape its grip without getting serious burns.
Pokédex Entry 2: When Pyrethon grows, it sheds its old skin and burns it. Each new skin has a slightly different pattern.

Nowra Pokédex No. 006
Combustrict
Flame Pokémon (from combustion+constrict)
HT: 10'06"/3.2m
WT: 327lbs/148.3kg
Ability: Blaze (Hidden Ability: Shed Skin)
Pokédex Entry 1: When particularly enraged or hungry, Combustrict sets fire to its scales and engulfs everything it sees in flames. It would never try to harm its own trainer, however.
Pokédex Entry 2: A Combustrict can open its mouth incredibly wide by dislocating its jaw. If it wanted to, it could swallow a grown man whole.

The Charcoil line's design was a fairly simple one when I first made it, and I wanted to keep that simplicity while also refining its elements to look more cohesive. I distinctly remember basing the line off of nonvenomous snakes, constrictors in particular, because I already had a Poison-type starter in the Water type line (it being based on a platypus), and having two Poison starters would be redundant. My main concern was trying not to let it look too much like Charmander or Snivy, which the original design struggled to do because of the shape of the flames and the collar-like placement of them. That was a pretty easy fix since one time I had partially updated Charcoil to have more angular flames like Cyndaquil. All I had to do now was give that to the evolved forms as well while also placing them in such a way that they had unique silhouettes. Plus the triangular stripes were pretty much the same in all the stages and it felt kind of boring, so I tried to make it to where the stripes appeared to increase in length until Combustrict's stripes reached all the way to the underbelly. Also for Combustrict's stripe patterns, I was inspired by the scrub python for the face markings and the venomous tiger snake for the thickness of the stripes. As for the shiny colors, they were originally green and blue, but I changed it to more of an aquamarine and purple because one, it looked better, and two, the scrub python is also called the amethystine python for its purplish scales.

These Fakemons' names stayed pretty much the same between the time I first made them and now, with only Pyrethon's name being changed from Pyrothon to make it roll off the tongue better.

In battle, this line boasts great Speed and both Attack and Special Attack to match, but it's pretty fragile defense-wise. Much of their strategy involves using trapping moves such as Bind or Fire Spin, and Combustrict's signature move, Boa Combust, doubles in power when the target is trapped.
