Lucy tried everything to escape from her restraints, but eventually gave up. She couldn't even remove her booties, let alone the cast which immobilized her entire upper body. She curled up into a ball in the corner of her room and cried, staring off into space as she felt the tears roll down her cheeks and into the padding of the cast around her face. Eventually she calmed down, and she resigned herself to begging Diane for her freedom.

Lucy got to her feet with some difficulty, walked to her bedroom door, and was relieved to see that it was open a few inches -- if not, she likely would have been trapped in her room. She cautiously walked into the hallway, down the stairs, and into the living room, where she found Diane reading a book on the couch. Diane didn't look up as she approached.

"mmmm mmmph MMMM!"

Diane put the book down on the couch and eyed Lucy up and down with a scornful satisfied expression. "Oh good, you're awake. I was going to give you another half-hour before checking on you."

Lucy twisted back and forth at the waist and pleaded with her eyes to be let out of her cast.

"Have you ever heard of swaddling a newborn?"

"mmmm?"

"I imagine not. I remember you failing health class in high school. It's common to restrain an infant to keep them from hurting themselves, until their brains are developed enough to trust them with control over their own body. It helps them feel safe and secure."

Lucy's eyes widened as she processed what Diane said. "mmmm? mmmmmph!?"

"This is what you wanted, right? To spend the entire summer with no responsibilities, with everyone doing everything for you?"

The entire summer!? No, this couldn't be happening -- Lucy tried to say she was sorry, that she would act like an adult, but Diane ignored her.

"All of your personal needs will be taken care of by a home health service I've hired. They're well-known for their discretion."

Lucy avoided Diane's gaze and stared at the floor.

"I've also been talking with your old friend Samantha. Remember her?"

Lucy froze as she heard that name. She and Sam had been best friends in middle school, but Lucy abandoned her to fit in with a more popular crowd when they started high school. She had said and done some ... hurtful things to Sam for the amusement of her new friends, and they hadn't spoken since an enormous fight a few years ago.

"I always liked her. I invited her over this evening to keep you company."
