Description Part of a Hapkido demonstration, the fighter in mid air performs a kick aimed at his opponents head. Since it was a demonstration, the blow didn't land, but the precision for such a near miss (2-3in) is quite impressive!

Thank you ^Timothy-Sim and `Tepara for the feature and kind words - FEATURED HERE

great timing... the reason I think this is better that it would have been 1/2 a second later is that here you can see the anticipation of the shot in both men...

Oh boy did they ever! One tale is they were almost arrested as they had a tendency to practice wherever and whenever. One evening after class they were walking home and a few of their other friends tried the stickup routine, the boys went into action and had a blast, but the policeman, ummm Bobby? were not very impressed with the disruption Kids!

I like the fact that you can the bald guy through the kickers legs, though I too would have liked to have seen this frame taken a half sec later.
Though this is a guess, you dont seem like one of those 7-9 frame a sec shooter types to me, which I can respect, but in this instance, it may have benefited you.
Just a thought

He is the teacher, im pretty sure.. half a second later, i woul have to be on the other side of the ring, since his face would have been facing away from me here

I dont, I do maybe 3-4 at most, and that is not very often

chocomalk In reply to straightfromcamera [2009-10-29 19:21:55 +0000 UTC]

The kickers face would be lost I agree, but not the kick, from a viewers standpoint I would loved to see the "just miss" as the foot swooped across the assistants face. Now if there had been contact, yeah, I would have preferred to have seen that from the other side, not trying to nitpick here, I know you cant be everywhere and fights are hard territory to shoot in
Thats why I mentioned the frame rate, I dont shoot that way either, but having shot a fight with a manual film camera, I would have loved my D300 at the moment

Hi! Unfortunately I am no proud owner of a Premium Membership (yet.... ) so I can't exactly make any official critiques for your picture at the moment. However, I will still speak about the photo here (I don't really see the real difference between commenting here or there in the critique-box anyway, it's all still the same text )

So, I really like this photo. I find it captures the moment so well- and I'm sure that's exactly what you were trying to do.

Also, something even more applaudable is that you actually managed to snap at just the right split-second moment to get the extreme positions they are in. His kick just barely missed his face! Wow! It really is a very unique and wonderful photo in itself.

I, however, am merely a young, junior photographer at the moment, so I can't really criticise much on your professional work!

Anyway, overall, I feel this is a very good job well done !!

Thank you SO much for making a critique, regardless of premium membership or not

Anyone who takes photos deserves to be able to critique another photographers work.. if at any point you are wrong, the worst thing that can happen is you learn something!

damn! i would have loved the shot even more if it was just half a second more, where the legs are right infront of the face!

his face would have been hidden tho! but I agree, having a second shot would have been cool too
