Description Nothing better... Than a new suit..

Like autumn leaves his sense fell from him
An empty glass of himself shattered somewhere within
His thoughts like a hundred moths
Trapped in a lampshade
Somewhere within
Their wings banging and burning
On through endless night
Forever awake he lies shaking and starving
Praying for someone to turn off the light

- Born of a broken man, Rage Against the machine

awesome shot. where were you, normally after looking at a photo for a few minutes, i can figure out place time, sometimes even why, this one: it leaves me with no clues.
I love it.

I was about 15 feet away, using my trusty 60mm lens. There is less than 5% cropping, mostly just due to resizing and stuff..

I was waiting for the bus, at around 1230 in the afternoon.

GalenAnderson In reply to straightfromcamera [2007-08-16 04:13:29 +0000 UTC]

would never have known.
I think that you are one of the best photographers i have ever know at getting it right the first time, just like that, less editing then anyone else, your awesome.
one can always get the best shots when waiting around. i always fail when i go out to shoot with a purpose thats why i always carry a camera. never know when you might take the worlds most famous photo. haha, or not.
anyway, great work on this one

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

straightfromcamera In reply to GalenAnderson [2007-08-16 04:17:08 +0000 UTC]

yeah, editing was minimal, but still was some.

shot a two stops underexposed.
raw conversion to sharpen and add contrast.

b/w conversion with channel mixing
dodge and burn (basic darkroom tecnique )

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GalenAnderson In reply to straightfromcamera [2007-08-16 04:40:47 +0000 UTC]

good work at it too!
very impressed
by "basic darkroom tecnique " you mean like no paths and the like to guide you right? just good old brush stroke by brush stroke darkening and lightening right?

Mine would be a sad but true story about this. But for some reason I can't find the words to write it. Many here, well..two comments here, I found touch on a lot about how I feel, so I won't repeat. I would like to know his story though in his words, it would be heartbreaking but beautiful.

Photo wise, I would prefer without the suit if it wasn't a big factor of the photo, I mean just him himself like that and the expression would speak a lot. The b/w is really nice.

a story... I am not very inspired for stories today, but I'll try.

Once upon a time there was girl who connect to internet and saw a beautiful photo. In the photo was old man with long beard. Almost like Santa Claus, but much more human, much more real, much more alive. He was in a old fashion suit, near the topest fashion shops. But if you regard well, you will be able to see, that he is people than the rest. So many stories untold in he's hands, in he's eyes, in he's beards, in he's wrinkles.
So this is a story of mysterious stranger in a photo, besides it's a photo, the man in it is alive, a lives in it.

Well, was my try for a story.
This photo is awesome.

This is the story of a man who knows of greed and gluttony and hedonism, a man not to be fooled by the trappings of material wealth. This is the story of freedom from the rat race and of grubbing in the muck in pursuit of the almighty dollar.
It’s the story of a lifetime spent preparing one’s soul for everlasting life.

wonderful composition.
