Description
Taken on the border to east van and "regular" vancouver as some would say.. honestly, i felt equally at ease walking both sides of the city..when i was walking by this lady, she was picking up change that the guy frame left had thrown on the ground for her.. she was taking her time.. when i walked by her i realized she was crying..
This is back when I was experimenting with pushing ISO with expired film

Sad how most turn their back on the less fortunate..., as though the tables could never be turned. Props to you for being amongst those who choose to see. You should do a feature on them, The Forgotten..., something like that. Just thought of it. The shot could've been tighter but I see why you had to get the gentleman on the left. Tells a story, which you did good..

I assume I'm looking at the cropped version.
This is a very very powerful picture.
I work in Vancouver and the downtown Eastside is like a 3rd world country..only worse and one tends to forget the people there started out with feelings and a sense of humanity at one point in their lives.
This is a very sad window into this woman's heart at a point in her life you can only hope she will be able to escape the life on the street.

I wish the same thing mate!!! I know some people which are doing the thingie. One of them is from Manchester and the other from USA... They live here, but they work in their respectives countries, by internet, and they earn in dollars, so they're richs here...!!
Lately, you can see a lot of foreigns here... BEcause the Argentinian Peso Devaluation, thing scost here 4 times even less than in Europe or USA. You know what? I live in a really big house with something like 60 meters of deepth backyard per 30 of width, having 2 flats and a house, all in the same terrain without counting the backyard... The house's cost is like 80000 thousand of dollars. And the neigborhood is one of the richiest from here (I'm not a rich man, I just had lucky Actually, I have some economic problems because maintaining this stuff is pretty a pain in the ass because the taxes).
So mate, with 80 thousand of dollars you can buy such big house in a high wealth neighborhood if you want to come here ya know... However, with 400 dollars per month you can rent a big house like mine. I think you get the idea... Earn in dollars and living in Argentina, that's the trick And! I'm learning a good quantity of money here because the high wealth people around here... Any business you open in this neighborhood will give you a lot of money. But you must have knowledge about something you can teach. Like playing guitar, that would give you like 2.520 dollars per month teaching like 20 people 2 hours each of them per week... And teaching some shitty chords!!!

such a powerful photo. what camera are you using in these? The last few Ive seen have seemed very noisy/grainy and I was just wondering. Then again I havent slept very much in the last... month... and its pretty damn early so my eyes may not be working yet

straightfromcamera In reply to Awi [2006-10-20 16:29:40 +0000 UTC]
they are a bit grainy.. its a combination of the crappy kit lens, and my experimenting with camera settings..
i shoot with a minolta maxxum4 with 28-100 3.5-5.6
on the up side, i can replace it for about $50 if i need to

hey, really great story caught there...
the not so focused i dont mind... but the contrast, is not the best one... the lights are over exposed, and the shadows under exposed...maybe you can bring some detail out of the shadows using PS...
but the composition, VERY strong.... really liked it
