Description
A tribute to my budgie, Sky, a year after his passing.I started this a few weeks after Sky died intending it to be a tribute to the eleven years he was in my life, but looking through all the photos was making me too emotional. I always intended to pick the project up again, and now that it's been a year, I felt like I could handle things a bit better. It was still a bit rough at times...
So here is Sky, with a picture for every year of his life (including extras). All the drawings are based on photos I took of Sky during each year. The first drawing is from the day I took him home.
Sky was a great budgie. He was pretty mellow most of the time, but had a brave adventurous side too. It was nice having a bird that wanted to spend some time with me and some time on his own. He loved to mimic the sounds of other animals, the blue jay being his favorite. Sky always wanted to have some of what I was eating (so I would try not to eat in front of him, in case it wasn't a food I could share), or check out what I was looking at (he loved to peck at textbooks, comics, and homework when I let him). He was pretty bonded to me, and trusted me more than anyone else, though he wasn't antagonistic toward others. I still miss him a lot, but I am thankful I got to look after him for those 11 years

How adorable... You've captured him well. It's sweet how he was still a little pink in the nose at the beginning. Wow, eleven years -- looks like he had a long, good life with you!!

A wonderful tribute I think, and a great concept in general. I love the one of him taking a bath.

Thank you ^_^ I miss Sky, but I do enjoy remembering all the good times we had.
Yes, he had two places where he didn't have any markings, a tiny spot on the back of his head (hard to see or out of view in most of the pictures) and his primary flight feathers. It's a type of pied mutation, but I don't know the name.

You are welcome
Aww that is cute
One of my girls is green with yellow flight feathers (like yours had white) but also a yellow tail. And on her belly there is a yellow... like a ring around her belly
And the back of her head is a yellow mark... but it looks like a arrow aiming up

I'm sorry for your loss... I had to put my cat down last October as well and I still miss him. But, pets always have a place in your heart ^.^

Thank you ^_^
I'm sorry about your cat I agree that pets are very special. I feel like my birds are part of my family. It's easier for me now to draw my living birds, but I don't want to stop drawing Sky. He was such a huge part of my life.

These are goregous. I'm sorry for your loss. Never easy to lose a beloved budgie. But 11 is excellent. Shows you took great care of him. The average is 6.

Thank you for your kind words
Sky was such a strong little bird, though he was undersized. He had pulled through several bouts of illness during his life and it was hard when I realized this time he was dying. The budgie I had before him, Polly, passed just before age 5 from a tumor.

Oh well you did well by them. I can relate. My beloved Phage had a few illnesses and I took him to the vet and extended his life. But it was time for him to go one day.

This is gorgeous, S-A! Your linework is flawless and your use of perspective is so dynamic, it's a nice blend. It must have taken you ages to draw all of this!
As for the lovely li'l Sky, he truly was the sweetest parakeet I ever met. He had a fulfilling 11 years thanks to you, an unusually long lifespan for a budgie, and I know he loved every moment of it

Aw, thanks ^_^ I felt like the outline was pretty rough, but then I told myself "hey, it's organic!"
In my dreams for the future, I always thought Sky would still be there when I graduated college. But I can't say he didn't give it his best, and at least we got to celebrate his 11th birthday

It's smooth as silk, and you did a great job keeping his proportions constant throughout the doodles.
I know At least we can say he had an amazing life, I doubt there was ever a happier budgie than our li'l Sky.
