Description
A guy to Tylosaurus Tf. Comes with fun action story!it wasn't a girly necklace in any way. It was definitely on the more masculine side. In Tyler's mind, there was nothing manlier than a tooth on a length of leather. It's something that's lasted through the ages, something a man from (almost) any age could appreciate. He wasn't sure exactly what kind of tooth it was, but he didn't really care. To him, it was an awesome tooth on a cord, and it was now his. The leather cord was broken, but a quick knot made it instantly wearable.
He didn't see anything against wearing while he was in the water. There wasn't much metal on it to attract the eye of a hungry barracuda, and he sincerely doubted that the leather would shrink enough to choke him even if he dried it in full noon sun. He slipped it on over his head and admired the way the conical tooth glinted in the sun.
"Hey Tyler!!" A shout dragged him out of a daydream involving many tooth adoring girls, and he squinted to see who was doing all the yelling. It turned out to be his friend Mike, who waved at him from almost half a beach away. His friends had run on ahead of him when he had stopped to pick up the tooth. "Are you coming snorkeling or what?!"
Tyler grinned and picked up his gear from where he had set it on the sand, and hurried towards them.
"You bet I am, losers!" he jeered "And I bet I see cooler fish than you do!"
A few minutes l later, he and his friends were geared up and splashing awkwardly into the surf, almost tripping over their flippers.
"You're supposed to walk BACKWARDS, guys" Josh chided, demonstrating the ' proper way' as always.
"You go ahead dork!" Tyler laughed. " And while you're walking backwards looking stupid, we'll be getting all the girls!" He chomped down on his snorkel, adjusted his mask one final time, and dove into the surf just in time to avoid his friends angry splashings.
When everyone was settled, the group of four boys swam together for awhile, the warm salt water keeping them just high enough to be able to breathe well through their snorkels and also to see and point out to each other the various interesting things that seemed to pop up at every moment. After a time though, they started to separate a bit, with Tyler ending up the farthest away. He knew that the rule of snorkeling was to stick together with a buddy, but this single rule slipped his mind as he followed schools of brightly coloured fish over carpets of healthy coral. As he neared one edge of the reef, he could see a massive drop off looming before him. Knowing that many large predatory fish lurked just outside of reefs in the hope of catching tasty meals, he turned and headed back towards his buddies.
He hadn't gone very far when he began to feel a bit strange. His arms and legs weren't responding very well, and he felt heavier. He stopped swimming, taking a few deep breaths to try to calm himself and .to make the feelings go away.
"It's probably something I ate" he told himself. "I probably have food poisoning or something." He nodded to himself. "Yeah, that's gotta' be it." He had been fairly adventurous with the local fair last night, it had probably just taken some time to catch up to him.
He started swimming again, trying to ignore the weird feelings he was having, and the fact that it felt like his flippers were loosening on his feet...Wait a minute! Food poisoning wouldn't make his flippers fall off, would it?
He turned and looked down at his fit to find that not only were his flippers gone, but his body was rapidly changing into some kind of sea monster! He started to panic as he felt himself sinking towards the bottom, unaccustomed to his suddenly gained new weight. He flailed his hands uselessly as they shrunk towards his shoulders, his fingers merging together. His face suddenly pushed forward into some kind of snout that definitely wasn't made for snorkels, and said apparatus went spiraling down to the bottom, leaking a few bubbles of precious oxygen. His mind went into a blind panic as he kicked and thrashed, which did nothing other than turn him upside down.
His orange and white patterned board shorts had rapidly stretched to their limit and the finny tail that came bursting through them ended their existence as shorts, sending a few orange and white scraps fluttering to the bottom of the reef. He spiraled towards the bottom after them, struggling to get himself upright. The coral was pretty, but he certainly didn't want to get close and personal with it!
He could feel his body continuing to expand, and his skin changing into something much tougher and more sea worthy than tanned human flesh. His teeth were changing too, from human to something decidedly older and fiercer. Something that felt surprisingly like...the necklace he had found. With this new thought taking precedence in his mind, he managed to twist enough so that said necklace floated in front of his face for a few moments.
It was glowing.
He stared at it in disbelief, wondering if this was the reason why when he found it the cord had been broken. He was close to being 20 feet long, and the leather was uncomfortably tight around his neck. His arms and legs seemed to work again, (albeit in a different way) and he no longer felt so out of breath and panicked. Somehow seeing the glow of the necklace had calmed him. Maybe it was because his transformation was finished, or maybe because the glow had reassured him that what had happened was what was suppose to have happened. As he headed out to somewhat deeper waters,he purposefully brushed past a particularly jagged piece of coral, slicing through the leather cord, his new skin protecting him from being sliced himself. It drifted towards the sea floor for a little while before getting swept up in a passing current.
He may not have had any idea what species he was, but he DID know that he was suddenly very hungry, and that deeper water would probably present him with better food options. After all, he still had his own mind, and he definitely didn't want his friends to be on the menu.
He caught a glimpse of some kind of shark not far off in the distance, and swam towards it, trying to look as much like a shark himself as possible. Sharks hurt people, right? So theoretically if he ate the shark, he was saving lives. He liked that idea. He smiled inwardly to himself, pleased with his mental image of 'Sea Monster Man, Protector of Babes and Beaches alike'.He hoped that he could still talk, but if not, he was sure that he could find some way of communication. 'Sea Monster Man'. Yeah. He could deal with that.
Behind him, what was left of his clothes and gear settled to the sea floor...everything except the necklace. The wave that had captured it took it in to shore and wedged it on a rock. A few days later, a storm flung it onto the beach, where any passerby could pick it up......
Art (including story) = Mine!
Mosasaurs= Freakin' awesome.

Uh, crits. Things recede into the background really quickly in water -- they become lighter and more transparent. Also, there's an ocean wave tutorial by *B1nd1 here you might look at to add some detail to the top?

I was a little concerned by the fact that things were really bright even though I was trying to make them farther away. After I posted it, I looked at the top and was like ' huh, that doesn't look as much like water as I though it did'. Thank you so much for the advice and the tutorial link, I'll see what I can do with it.

I like how detailed and colorful all the coral is. And I totally agree that mosasaurs rock socks and boxers.
Plus, for some reason, your little TF story there didn't come across as egregiously self-fulfilling as those by other people on this site with more watches and pageviews. I think it was nice that the kid had ideas of playing the hero -- AND that he had friends, too. No comment on the protagonists of other TF stories out there. -eyeroll-

I'm glad that the story wasn't bad. I don't have anything to compare it to, because I have honestly never read a tf story here on DA...or anywhere else. ^ ^;; So, most other Tf character people don't have friends? Must be sad for them.

Go type ... okay, "dragon transformation" into the search box up there, and look at some of the other stories. Just look. Actually reading them might be dangerous to your reason.
Exactly -- the characters in those stories tend to have little to no meaningful friend contact, and always seem happy to sever any and all ties ties with humanity afterwards. It's kind of sad.
