Description
the captains of his imperial majesty's navy are not inhuman. after every engagement won, the fleet consolidates, licks its wounds, and sweeps the battlefield for survivors.pictured here is the AINV Phoenix Risen, a mark 1 "Re" class superdreadnaught, idling alongside the twisted remains of destroyed USN vessels and scanning the debris for life.
in the background the angry glow of the bizarre siamese planets of the uninhabited and unstable EDB-59 system, south of the sidemore republic and bordering the Orion nebula.
it is a terrible fate to be captured by an enemy, but worse still to drift helplessly through the unspeakable vastness of space, kept in a semi-concious coma by the automated chemical systems of one's suit. the manufacturers of the suits proudly claim an individual can survive up to a month without food or water, but fail to provide statistics on how many survivors have retained their sanity after more than a few days adrift.

All your art is making me feel like there was some CG-heavy sci fi movie in the 90s I missed... one that looked like Babylon Five and all that. It feels like a VHS I should go out and look for.

I can never get capitol ships to look good. Always something with the angles or something. Whatever. Awesome stuff there

in the automotive and aero design industry, they always bang on about "three to five lines", meaning if a shape can't be described in three to five major lines, then its too complicated. just a thought.

That's some damn good modelling, dude. The only thing I didn't like is the blurry planet in the background, as it's too blurry.

yeah this shot is pretty shoddy even by my cowboy standards. one of the guys was all like "dude, kill a planet" so i killed a planet, then tried to just crowbar it in to the render which just looks shit.
however this pic IS getting put out in a national magazine so i must be doing something right. im working on a polished one. just really wanted some pageviews

While looking at this picture, especially towards the left hand side, I have to remember that it isn't real.....yet. Very well done. Glow effects are espcially well done.

yup. the ship is about 5k polies, nicely built by failurecrusade. and the normal mapping takes care of everything else. see all the armour plating slabs? normal mapping only
same for the wreckage stuff.

i myself have never read any honor harrington. im assured its quite good. however the guy that made up most of the names reads a bunch of it
