SHORT STORY
The day started out eventful for the pumped and ready Tokota's. They have been instructed to hunt by their handlers and also instructed to work in a pack. Pack hunts would give more of a success chance for each Tokota as they could easily work together to take down even the biggest of prey. Today, the prey they were targetting were mountain goats- a more fierce competetor because of their aggressive and territorial behavior as well as the natural instinct to attack. Their powerful horns could potentially pierce through even the toughest of Tokota skin and thickest fur. But such a large beast such as the Tokota would much prefer some competition and a fight when it comes to hunting, as they have zero threats other than humans, and are the most powerful animal in Alaska among other places. Much more of a task than hunting the simple deer or rabbit which takes speed, agility, and stamnia that most Tokota's have. In the meadow, the hunting party of Jacinta the black lilac dire, Riversong the tawny dire, Hauntzer the lil' Toki, Nobu the piebald lilac, Eila the other tawny, and Amarok the tawny sphinx travelled together in a tight hunting party. David, the handler that was requested to travel with them rode on the starters back who was there as more of a guide than anything. The Tokota's eyed carefully in the distance towards the mountainside, trying to spot anything moving that could be or possibly lead them to their desired prey. The beasts were itching to hunt, staring impatiently in the direction they travelled. With fast paced travelling, the hunting party had travelled to the mountain base and began scenting for their prey. It wasn't long before Riversong caught the trail of a goat herd, immediately letting the others know with a snort and an impatient stomp. They trailed onwards, following the scent and then finally spotting the herd that unknowingly grazed and rested. Jacinta looked towards her crew, her head lowered but tail raised. A low growl emitted from the depths of her throat and she signalled for the group to begin fanning out. They circled the herd, with each of the Tokota's taking an outpost to make a tight circle around the herd. Of course, they were still unnoticed until one of the Tokota's that were upwind had their scent flow towards the mountain goat. The goats grew uneasy at the scent of something different in the air, and they have met with Tokota's before so fear immediately struck the herd. A wolf, coyote, and cougars they could fend off and the fight would be 50/50 depending on if someone gets caught out, but with Tokota's the fight was entirely in the odds of Tokota's. Sure some of the hulking canine beasts came out empty handed at some points, but a Tokota can always outpower a mere goat. Even their numbers are not entirely good of a defense. It wasn't long before the Tokota's had showed themselves, stalking with low profiles towards the group. Each Tokota had similiar body language which was the whole pacing back and fourth, eyes avoiding contact to seem discreet, and heading towards but not in the direct direction of the goats. Before long, a goats cry was heard and another goat sounded angry, followed by the sound of clacking hooves as a goat charged towards Nobu and Haunt. The piebald lilac and the toki worked together to harass a goat enough to get it to lunge after them, but their deed had not gone unnoticed by an angry and rather large male who saw Haunt as an easier target than the other lumbering Tokota's. He aimed to hurt the toki, but was met by a snarling Nobu who bodyslammed and tackled down the male. Haunt proceeded to harass and tackle down the original goat they had gone after- a smaller male who went down without too much of a fight. Jacinta and Riversong stuck near one another although the two would prefer to catch their own kill by themselves. Their intimidating size and stares would coax an ansy goat from the crowd, though. And it worked, a ram charged aimlessly towards the huge lilac dire, aiming to ravage her chest but was met with the unforgiving jaws of the dire who easily threw the goat aside. Riversong worked her charm on a young male who was also itching for a fight. She kept nipping and pawing from afar which only made the dumb animal angry. It wasn't long before River had successfully coaxed and tackled down her hunt. Amarok aided Eila with a kill who was all too easy, literally running into them out of fear of the goats around him getting caught. He was totally unaware of the waiting Amarok and Eila who knew someone would eventually snap and cower.
