Description
A regional map created for a role-playing group. The GM wanted the players to explore the world as the progress, hence the lack of labels. Digitally hand-drawn and colored on a Wacom Bamboo.Related content

Thanks.
I might do close-up sections of the map in the future, depending on how well the RPG round progresses, so I'm getting the chance to add some detail to the terrain further down the line.

That will be cool. I really like the bold color schemes you've moved into.
They are very engaging and fresh.

Thanks. For some reason I just can't seem to go with the more desaturated look of things many other cartographers use (and which I like).

I understand that completely.
In non map work I have done a lot of desaturated stuff but when it came to maps, unless they were b&w or greyscale, they usually seemed to come out more brightly colored.
For me, I found that I had to really start out the map with the plan of lower color for it to work well.
It seemed to have something to do with how I think when planning and how that just naturally would lead to more color.
That was part of why I did those Mid Earth maps - to get myself to do it. That's also where i realized it was in the planning stage for me. Might be different for you but that's something to think about.
It is also part of the process of developing different styles. Sometimes you have to do several maps in a similar style to really develop it into something more easily repeatable. That has worked for me in the past.
