Why Luffy and Robin are a good couple!

While I have been fortunate enough to find other fans of LuffyxRobin, there are some One Piece fans who would say they’re the least likely couple. Now, while One Piece will never be a romantic story, if it was, I have to say, Luffy and Robin together isn’t as imaginary as some people might think it is.

First of all, the most common argument against it, age difference, is very silly; if people are so afraid of a 17 year old and 28 year old possibly falling in love, I hope they never read the awesome manga series Rurouni Kenshin which stars a couple this age (Kamiya Kaoru-17 and Himura Kenshin-28). There are real people who fall in love who have a gap between their ages- it happens! I know somebody might suddenly worry now that I’m suggesting grandma’s regularly get remarried to their grandkid’s friends- no NO! I’ve only heard of very large gaps between lovers’ ages in rare cases and we’re NOT talking about an example of that here- we’re only talking about an 11 year difference. My parents actually, are an example of a five year difference and they always say that it matters way less when you get older. Something some fans might want to consider: if you can’t see Luffy at 17 with the 28 year old Robin, then how about after he’s older and more mature, probably with a personality very similar to Shanks? A 25 year old Luffy and 36 year old Robin? I don’t think that’ll scare off as many people who worried before about ages.

Luffy and Robin as people match up nicely; their personalities compliment each other. Luffy is goofy, enthusiastic, positive, very dedicated, but at times gets himself into trouble thanks to being oblivious and when he gets mad he gets MAD! Robin on the other hand is removed and polite, is very intelligent, is very good at keeping her emotions hidden, and remembers to keep an eye open for important signs that others wouldn’t notice, but she gets lonely and sad and doubts herself. Luffy is the type of person Robin needs around to keep her spirit up and on the other hand, Robin is the type of person who is smart enough to keep track of Luffy alright but unlike other crewmates, she doesn’t get angry at him and instead finds his actions more amusing than anything. In a lovers relationship also, Luffy’s anger might be calmed and Robin might learn to believe in herself. They could learn a lot from each other, making it a very interesting story and a much more meaningful one than the average One Piece romance fanfic.

The two of them could be set up with different people, but I see them better with each other than anybody else. Together, Luffy and Robin even leave open a peaceful doorway for commonly enjoyed couples like SanjixNami or UsoppxKaya, without becoming competition.

There’s plenty more to it, but these are a few of the reasons I really support Luffy and Robin as a couple!
