Description Cosplaying as Shinku was one of the most ambitious and challenging costumes that I've ever done.

I've wanted to make this costume since 2007. I never actually really got into Rozen Maiden (I still have yet to watch the Anime) but in the last couple of years I've become a bit of an Anime poser deciding who to Cosplay based mostly on designs versus because I seriously like a series. I will get around to watching Rozen Maiden though. XD

This costume was a huge challenge. The material didn't like to cooperate when I worked with it. I managed to burn panels of the dress (something that I've never done before in the 10 years that I've been Cosplaying). My pre-styled wig that I paid quite a bit of money for became pretty much ruined in a series of disasters. It was super frustrating. At times I wanted to throw in the towel and give up on the costume, but I'm so happy that I didn't! All the tears and sweat really paid off despite the fact that I didn't have much of a life in May while I was working on this! I have to give my mom a lot of credit for helping me fix a lot of the sewing on the dress. Parts of the seams like to come apart because the fabric disintegrates. I've used a ton of no fray on seams and when I could excess fabric has been cut using pinking shears to try to deal with the fabric fraying away, but this dress can be quite thready at times. (^^);;

Although the wig is a pain to deal with, overall I'm really happy with the costume and I plan to re-wear it a lot in the next few years. It's a lot of fun Cosplaying as Shinku! Eventually Ammie will be Cosplaying Suigintou with me and I look forward to maybe getting a big Rozen Maiden group together. I just love the character designs! (^_^) I'm planning to re-wear this costume at Youmacon. Hopefully at the con I'll be able to find a nice spot for a photoshoot as I have very few photos of the costume right now and no fitting character photos.

Thanks to Pan-Chan for putting up with me complaining about this costume (and helping me with my wig malfunctions). She also snapped this nice picture.

This is amazing! I am so happy to hear that you did not give up...I know how frustrated you probably felt, that happens to me with every costume. I hate when something goes wrong, and being a perfectionist sucks since I feel obligated to fix it ;__; The outcome is awesome, I never would have guessed it was such a struggle :3 It just seems so natural!

Thanks for sharing with me! I totally understand where you're coming from. I'm trying not to let myself get too critical about flaws in my costumes and worry too much about perfection. I always go over kill for Resident Evil and Silent Hill stuff but in general I'm trying to remind myself that this needs to be for fun and not to overwhelm myself with worries about mistakes. With Shinku, though, it was big mistakes like burning the fabric and nearly totally destroying my wig that caused me a lot of grief. This is yet another time where at points my mother helped me salvage some of the sewing, but all the work definitely inspired me to take it easier with my costumes so I can focus on not overwhelming myself.

Striving for accuracy is really a blessing and a curse. It can be so rewarding to complete a costume and feel proud of the hard work that you put into it, but the journey to the end result can be really challenging. Your costumes and props are amazing so the end result is worth the effort!

Amen to that! I feel the exact same way as you; sometimes getting the details down or a shape of something just right makes me so frustrated. I hate restarting things too, or redoing them so it really kills me to have to do. I currently am looking at that on two costumes, the tops just did not work out.

Ditto to you; like I said I wouldn't have guessed this gave you such trouble because it looks so perfect in the end. Really great job salvaging things, it turned out beautifully

Thanks! Honestly with Shinku there are still a couple of panels on the sides of the dress with burn splotches (just discoloured marks) that I never bothered to redo as the velvet fabric likes to shred when you overwork it, but I'm just living with the mistakes and finding joy in the design. I'm really proud of the costume as it's something that I’ve dreamed of making for several years. :3

I wish you all the best with the costumes that you're working on that are problematic. I'm sure you'll be able to find a way to make them turn out how you would like, but don’t be too hard on yourself! I’m sure they look a lot better than you think. Hopefully working on them won't cause you too much trouble!
