Her mind filled with images from her dreams- endless dark trees, glimpses of sun through the branches, rain pattering on thick leaves. It was where she belonged, wasn't it?
"You'll never know, because you're shut in this place. While Toklo wanders alone, starving and helpless. I tried to find him, I really did. But what's the use? His spirit probably joined the Salmon River long ago."

I've always loved the conversation between Oka and Lusa the night before Oka is put to sleep for attacking a zookeeper. I find it both sweet and heartbreaking and wanted to draw it.
Oh please, I beg you, ignore my horrid fence.
Why did there have to be a fence between them in the book? I'm sure Black bears and Grizzlies can get along in one area. *shows how good of a zookeeper I would be* xDDDDAnywho, hope you guys enjoy!

i really do think Oka loved Tokolo
i think she left him beacuse she really did thought he would die to so she wanted to send him off so she didnt feel the pain. But she did. she will be always my fav <3

This is exactly how I envisioned this scene. A mother bear crying for her cubs. Poor Oka.

I like the fence! Well not that they're fenced in...but let me say, I have about as much artistic perspective as a preschooler. The way I draw a tree is still a bush on top of a trunk
That scene cracked me up too...it was really sad....I was willing the keeper to notice in time and run but he didn't. 
I stopped reading the books for a while...I have to go pick up the latest ones now though...I have to see what happens! I'm on the Smoke Mountain one I think...
