Bat-ponies are NOT vampire ponies. They are just ponies with bat-like wings, nocturnal habits and a powerful echolocation sense. They are shy and rare, living in colonies inside deep caves, in the moon and in the Pony-Earth (Equestria is the country. No one named the planet yet). Their cat-like eyes give them a better nocturne vision than the average pony. Nopony nows if they are native from the moon or from the Pony-Earth, not even them.

They are strong and very good fliers, once their wings get strong enough. They fly more silently than pegasi, making them good nocturnal guards. Some of them serve Luna's honor guard. Many ponies mistake them for vampire ponies and are afraid of them, but they are totally herbivorous. Despite their menacing look, they are often very sweet and loyal. As I said before, they have poor sight in daylight, but see very well in the dark. Their hearing is very good and they can use the shrieks they make for echolocation as a form of communication.

Vampire ponies absorbed the bat-ponies sharpened senses after feeding on them. As cool as those wings are, though, vampire ponies rarely shapeshift into bat-pony form because it draws too much attention to them (unless they were bat-ponies before being turned, of course).

The design I chose for the bat-ponies are similar to the Luna's guards from Luna Eclipsed. Sol Major is grey-scale here because, after reading Moonstuck, I can't see bat-ponies with bright colours. Actually, I'll be honest, I just included bat-ponies to The (ponyfied) Conservatory creatures because I fell in love with them in Moonstuck.
