Description
You can download the tutorial from our website or two other mirrors. These downloads are completely free. Please be patient as some of the files are large. The PDF and PSD are essentially the same thing. The PSD (almost double the file size), however, handles some of the instructions a little better because of its layers. The PDF on the other hand, navigates a bit quicker. Nonetheless, the differences are very minor. The MOV is a small video that goes through all of the images included in the tutorial, minus the instructions, tip pages, etc. Basically, you can see the image come to life, almost frame-by-frame.
Lastly, if you enjoy the tutorial, please share it or +fav. this page so it gets around for others to stumble upon. Thanks!

Many many things are really interesting. The way you do hair, for example. Now I understand many things about the looking of your coloring. And I must recognize that it is very impresing. Seeing the process of different people is a way to see their creativity. Creativity is not only the result, is also the way in the work. I'm your fan

Thanks so much man! It's very flattering and inspiring hearing this from an incredible artist like yourself !
My process (or the two of us here) keeps changing. I find this one good for illustrations in this style. I have a lot of concept stuff to put on the website soon...and it's much different from the way I work here. It's kind of crazy working in so many different ways. Anyway, I have a new tutorial going up today, that was loosely inspired by your work . Oh, and sorry for the late reply...really busy with work lately!

I have been stunned by your work since I started in this. I am a lover of your work.
Yes, I also have many things in different styles, just trying to fit what clients asks. The same style doesn't work for everything, and it's amazing to be moving from here to there, just trying to spend a good and not boring time. I guess, when you have a technique learned, and have done some things with it, then it looses something for yourself. In my case, I miss fight with the image, just trying to get what I can't.
I allways wanted to do soemthing with a similar style like yours, but I can't. If I do paintings, I'm more painty (like, maybe more classical, and I like dirty and realist ambients, to work myself in this kind of paintings) and if I do cell shading, I'm also more classical (like anime?). I try to addapt my techniques to the actual times, and experimenting, etc. But you technique allways amazed me. it's still amazing.
I would like to know more about you guys (or guy and girl, I'm not sure, couse your names are not familiar with me) you're brothers? I really envy you, in all the ways. But a good and inspiring envy, ofcourse.
Don't worry about answers. I know we are bussy people. I wish you the best. I am looking at the new tutorial. I can percieve some things about my style, but better done. You are better in all the ways, I love your work!

Hey Brosa! Again, super busy here, so late reply.
We've said it before, but we'll say it again, it's incredibly flattering hearing that from you. Thanks very much buddy. Since we found your work just recently, you've been a big source of inspiration for us.
Haha, we hear you. We usually try and do what the client wants. It can get a little crazy sometimes! It's both really fun, yet very challenging jumping between styles. Trying something new always takes more time, and there is always a fear of failing...or trying over and over to get it right.
We're still refining the multiple styles that we work in. Sometimes, it turns out good, other times, it's a painful struggle, full of frustration. Just recently, things have been coming a little smoother (after a lot of practice of course). I understand what you mean though. It's tricky to find that 'middle ground'. With this style, the idea was to make everything painterly, but still clean and simplified.
That's right, we're both brothers. We're 4 years apart, but share the same passion for art . Haha, it's silly hearing that from an incredible artist like yourself, so stop saying that we're better than you already hahahaha!!
.
On a side note, we'll add you as friends on Facebook. We'd love to get to know you more as well.
Hope you are well, and hopefully we'll talk to you very soon!

This is awesome, guys. That's quite a PDF. Now I know some of the secrets behind your characteristic hard-edged painting style. Nyuhuhu.
Makes me wonder why I haven't attempted a tutorial like this myself... My tutorials have become so outdated!

I won't be doing one like this again in a long time. Throwing a new one up that my bro did today though

Ok, so I read it and watched the video like I said I would and both were pretty helpful. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this! I'll pass it along in my next journal so more people can see it.
I have a question though: what file sizes/dimensions do you usually use, or rather, what was the original dimensions of Clubroom? It's a basic rule of thumb that bigger canvases are ideal, but this might not always be the case, and some artists purposely work with smaller canvases or so that they don't have to resize them smaller later. What is your approach to this process?

Thesis-D In reply to Thesis-D [2013-04-20 01:57:51 +0000 UTC]
Ok, sorry about the question. I apparently missed a whole lot of layers and you've already answered my question in them.

StudioQube In reply to Thesis-D [2013-05-10 21:59:44 +0000 UTC]
Hey! Sorry for the late reply here. Been super busy lately. If it's not meant for print, I usually like to work with something that just feels comfortable at 50% zoom. It almost fits the whole screen, but leaves enough room to have some reference open (or things like my colour rough). The original size is 300dpi - 3288 x 2236 pixels / 10.96 x 7.453 in.
