Description
In the early '70s, the Artorius Federal Republic sought for a weapon to replace their vintage RM45 carbines and MPM42 submachine guns still in service with the Armed Forces and the Federal Police. The Federal Government requested an automatic weapon with a weight of less than 4kg, chambered for 5.56x45mm intermediate cartridge, and fed by a 30-round box magazine.
Several arms factories domestic and foreign offered their weapons to the Federal Government, The Bismarcian Zentrale Waffenproduktionsgruppen offered a variant of the Gewehr M3 called Gewehr M33, the Belgican Nationale Manufacture d'armes Saive offered a down-scaled variant of the FAS/M53 called CAS, while the domestic National Armaments Group offered their prototype assault rifle design called the Light Automatic Carbine no.5 or simply LAC.
The three candidates were put through various trials. the three is fed by a standardized 30-round magazine, chambered in 5.56x45mm, and weighs less than 4kg, and the three withstood all the harsh trials set by the Federal Army. In the end, the Federal Goverment chooses the Light Automatic Carbine as its first assault rifle, the reason being the LAC is cheaper and domestically designed.
The LAC is soon renamed into ARM75 and mass produced to replace all existing RM45s and MPM42s within the Armed Forces and later the Federal Police.
