There's a small amount of lens glare that is causing the edges of the cliffs to be feathered with the blue of the sky. I don't know if thats from the atmosphere or you lens though. It also increases the brightness as well. It would be nice if the edges were a little more crisp and pronounced. The sky is also somewhat bland with no clouds. Landscape looks nice though

first, thanks for the comment and critique. second, this photo was taken in the same period as this one:

which has a similar blur to it, though the linked one looks better than this one. you think it is lens glare that is causing both of them?
i actually like the glow, especially in the linked photo. this one isn't as good, but it was still nice enough that i wanted to post itββeven though there weren't any clouds in the sky that evening.

I agree with your post. The linked picture is really beautiful and the glow adds to it, but that glow and this glow aren't the same thing. The cliffs here have a blue blur from the sky on them, but in the other picture, there is no run off of the sky.
Regardless, you obviously shot this I'd say between 6 and 8 AM. The water molecules in the air from the dew are probably whats causing the blur you see. It also has to do with the fact that you're a decent distance farther away from this picture than you are from the other one

cool response. i was actually trying to remember if this was a sunset or sunrise shot, and finally just figured on sunset. now i have to go change my tags.
this shot and the other shot were taken at the same time though. however, they were probably at vastly different angles, as the field station is surrounded by cliffs on almost all sides.
would that be what is causing the blur to behave differently in the two photos?
either way, i appreciate your input. thanks.
