Description
I guess this goes in this category? It was a drawing assignment to do a bunch of different hands, and some had to be foreshortened some had to have objects, some had to be in the mirror, blah blah...so these are my haaaaands. Going through the stages of cutting my fingernails.I had a lot of trouble deciding how to present them - they're on three sheets of separate paper, in random places...and I wanted to cut out the paper part so the hands would be clear in the pictures, but then it was hard to know what to do with them.
But this is what I ended up with, this super large-long-brown thing...any "presenting" suggestions, please give! I'll keep the psd on my computer (which daily cries out for more space on the harddrive...) for a while, in case people have any :3 Also, download for the full size!

This is AWESOME!! (I know, I'm getting to comfy with my all caps XD)
anyhoo, they way you arranged them shows them off pretty well, methinks. You did a really nice job, especially in how you handled all of the foreshortening.

OMG you rule my world. You own hands! I can imagine how difficult it would have been to get it technically correct, especially with the clippers!

Haha, I was pretty lucky with how those came out, it definitely isn't always that easy for me the clippers were difficult! But in a way, they made it easier too; having something specific to convey helped me focus on little details and stuff, in a certain sense. What I actually loved learning drawing them is to draw EXACTLY what I see, even to trying to get in all the bony-ness of my hands (I will have such old lady hands so soon, veins and all), whereas usually I just like...draw the approximation of a hand, if that makes sense
anyway, babble, it was jut a fun series of pictures to work on!

Hands have always been a pain for me. I always love seeing hands rendered well. I have to say that these are amazing.
As for a presentation suggestion:
I once had an assignment that I had to do where I had to create 5 images that were the same subject, but done in different styles. The final product was required to be displayed nicely.
I went to a framing place and chose a single mat board that went well with all the pieces and had them trim down the board so it was about 48" wide and 18" high. Then I had them cut five squares evenly spaced out along the length of the board. That way I could mat all 5 pieces onto one big board. It didn't really cost that much and they did it in just a few minutes.
It was a very clean and simple way to present it, but it looked really good.

Hands used to be a huge pain for me - all my early drawings are either like, bust shots, or people with their hands behind their backs - otherwise they always looked like mittens or clubs -_- But lately I've found it really fun to draw them, even if they don't always end up quite how I want.
Thanks a lot for the suggestion too, it's a really good one - I'll look into getting a mat board the next time I'm back home :3

Thanks! I love them too - they used to be my least favorite part to draw, even though they're one of my favorite body parts, but lately I've found them really fun to attempt :3

Ahhh, they are my favorite body part too.. or one of them. The back is another one. And collarbones and necks. Ahem. Yes, the body is cool.

:3 thank you so much! I went back and forth forever trying to decide if I should change anything, so it's reassuring to hear that what I ended up with is okay

Technically good. Wonder how you learned to draw'em as it seems to be impossible to be accurate when representing hands and feet (that is for me). The amount of practice looks obvious but again tell me: any tricks or tips beyond drawing this stuff a billion times? Believe me, I've read three or four books about hands and trashed something like twenty-four adult trees in paper - still my work simply sucks. (:
Thanks a lot mate.

Feet are still incredibly difficult for me - something about the toes - but hands have gotten a little bit easier as I make myself practice them. I used to hate HATE them, and just avoid drawing them all together, but sooner or later if you force yourself to do it enough you get the hang of it. Using your own hands as a model is really helpful, I find, and drawing exactly what you see, as close as possible, rather than what you sort of unconsciously assume a finger should look like; even if the drawing looks odd, sooner or later you'll start realizing what details need to be there to make it look like a hand. This, along with my ballpoint self portrait and some other more recent drawings are actually my first tries at super realistic hands in like...forever, I usually just generalize and make them cartoony, so it's practice definitely, but just really REALLY observing, which I know sounds dumb, but is true
A tip all the books give but which helped me when I was first learning was to draw them first as mitten shaped things, to get the basic mass down, and then sort of as blocks, so it's easier to know the perspective, and then draw the shape around that sort of skeleton. Also, with almost everything I draw I do a really light sketch first, and sort of layer on details, so it's easier for me to adjust as I go along; everyone has their own style, but that's what I'm most comfortable with, and it is helpful for fixing anatomical errors etc. Anyway, good luck, and I'd love to see whatever hands you come up with :3

hey! thanks a ton I actually don't go to art school; I go to Vassar, which is your normal liberal arts school, and therefore lets me take art classes too.
