Description crossover from futurama's fry and roger from american dad... we all know roger wears tons of different outfits.

i was watching the newest futurama dvd "into the wild green yonder" and seth mcfarlen sings the opening track for them in his frank sinatra voice... its great and i drew this while i listend to the commentary in tribute to two awesome cartoons!

I like this one the background should be a little less pressed against with the pencils mostly with the brown area of the wall there, but i have tendencies to do this from time to time too lol just try a lighter pressing with the pencils and try coloring in one direction and avoid straying from it if you can there are a few flyaways lol but that's not too much of a problem wood can be unique what color pencils do you use..? well aside from the coloring tip i don't seen anything wrong with this picture at all! I like it a lot it was a great idea I love both characters so this is a great tribute to them certainly.

thanks again! all the backgrounds i do are actually the setting of the house or place where one character dwells. so the wood on american dad is just like a solid color... i was trying to bring a lil more oomph to the wood than it normally has. this was my first attempt at wood.. [link] and i wasnt really happy with it so i tried a lil different approach. but yah i really do have this problem with not staying straight, lol its like i go around the curves and stray off not thinking about it then i end up going hard over certain spots and trying to fix things..... blah blah blah, lol

great advice, glad you liked it though!

Like I said it's all good not a problem at all, wood can have all sorts of stray lines...wood can have unpredictable patterns sometimes, there was once a tree with rot in it after it was cut down into a tree stump, it looked like a picture of a tree was in the wood don't even let me get started about how patterns can vary from tree to tree and so yeah I do still like it, just keep practicing I do very much like your work you do have more ideas than once I've had recently...i keep coming up with either strange ideas or generic characters...*sigh* but please keep up the good work you do ^_^

You're getting better I don't really know what else to say, aside from my last critique. What is your method for colouring? I can still see white spots in your picture...usually when I colour I do a light layer of colour [that will go with what colour is going on top] underneath everything so that no white shows through. Like, for this, I would've put a light green layer under the floor and Roger's skin, light yellow under the wall, and orange under Fry's jacket and wig. Also, how hard to you press on the pencils? Maybe you could try changing that...a medium pressure will usually give more consistent results.

under the hair i did a light yellow, under the jacket was orange, and i did a couple colors for roger, just 2 shades of grey... the second layer i tried to go harder on... i just cant seem to get rid of the white underneath, like the carpet has 3 colors in it, lol

Oleem In reply to SublimeBudd [2009-02-25 20:04:37 +0000 UTC]

You have to be careful that the first layer covers everything. Hmm, maybe you could try pressing softer? If you go to hard, that colour overwhelms everything.

If all else fails, you can resize the image. Making it smaller usually makes the colours look a lot smoother.
