Description This is a Baboon sitting on top of a car at Cape Point.

They have become rather a menace : stealing picnic hampers and bags in the hope of finding food, in the process often harming humans. They even break into houses and open fridges and cause havoc in kitchens.

Great capture! I heard about these baboons on television. Just like the bears in Canada, and maybe other animals in the rest of the world.

Thankyou so much for looking; yes, they do pose a danger to humans even though they tend to look 'cute' and not nearly as huge as bears, but they pack the strength of 5 grown men, apparently.

Fantastic!

At Longleat, they have buses to take tourists around that particular area so that we don't have to put our cars at risk! They do dreadful things...

And we thought skunks and raccoons were a were a nuissance here That is incredible. I know they can be fairly aggressive; I recall a time when I was a child that my sister, grandfather, and I had the roof of our car attacked while taking a tour of an animal park. The baboons were looking for handouts

Great capture

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

substar In reply to lilyamidthorns26 [2007-09-25 06:54:24 +0000 UTC]

That's exactly what is happening. They have come to associate cars & humans with food and now are becoming aggressive.
You must have gotten quite a fright, I'm sure!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

lilyamidthorns26 In reply to substar [2007-09-25 16:44:55 +0000 UTC]

Yes, especially since the top of my grandfather's car was one of those retractable kinds, so it was made partially of cloth

Everyone entering the park was told not to give anything to the baboons, not even to open the windows. Many people obviously did not heed that warning because the animals seemed used to receiving scraps, and they became aggressive otherwise.

It was a bit nervewracking hearing them clattering atop of the car, but interesting to watch their behaviour. My grandfather, if I recall correctly, was quite knowledable about various wildlife after having traveled extensively , as well as having been a scuba diver/oceanographer for many years. He made it a fun experience...never a dull moment when on an "adventure" with him

Cheers
