Description
'You remind me of the babe'This is Jareth (Goblin King) and Sarah at the masquerade ball in the film Labyrinth. I love this movie and thought it was a bit spooky and wierd when I was younger...still do, in fact.
Here we have Jennifer Connelly attempting not to stare at David Bowie's codpiece
Painted in acrylic. Turned out a bit dark but so do all my paintings.

what babe? the babe with power...the power of voodoo. One of my favorite movies of all time, and this painting lives up to that.

If you mention Labyrinth to anyone who has seen the movie, you're almost guaranteed to get a rendition of Magic Dance sung to you
It is a song I dance to often, I don't mind admitting.

Did you manage to get hold of a copy of this on DVD - you can buy it cheap on Amazon (about a fiver for the collectors edition)

Thank you. They are great masks to paint, they're so sinister!
I'm off to Amazon now to seek out that DVD. That is decently priced enough to not offend my inner cheap sod.

Cheers! I love masquerade balls and masks. It's the draw of wondering exactly what are behind the masks that makes me love painting 'em.

Okay. I just came back from YouTube where I watched the movie because this picture here (and some of Marquise's drawings [link] ) made me curious about it... Right. You have caused me a new fandom (as if there weren't already enough to look after)! Now apologize!
(= Summary: This picture is wonderful! )

Hehehee, it's a wonderful movie and totally up for fandom. I apologize for making you curious about Bowie's codpiece
By the way, sorry about the late reply. I'm completely losing track on comments! I need an extra set of hands and a better brain methinks

I liked the movie, too, though I felt that it sometimes had an overdose of goblins and weird doll-creatures that made it appear a bit childish, but with Jim Henson, the creator of the Muppet Show, what else could one expect? The real fandom potential lies in the Jareth/Sarah relationship.
(And I'm not at all curious about Bowie's codpiece because I generally don't like men in tights.
) No problem; at least you can be happy that you're getting feedback on your drawings...

to quote the first thing i said when i saw this "omygod omygod omygod omyfreakinGOD! YES!" lol
i LOVE the labyrinth.
i can sing along with EVERY song and almost quote every word! this is totally my favorite movie.
anyway,
to comment the painting rather than the movie...the detail is exquisite! i mean, you can seriously not only tell who they are, but recognize certain facial expressions that they really make.
great job on the masks in the background by the way!
and you captured bowie's hotness! wow! awesome! lol

I have to say, the colours in this are quite stunning, I love how natural and rich they look. I especially like the way that you treated the masks, costumes and jewelry, the forms have been derived very nicely. You've managed to convey so much detail while maintaining loose, painterly brush strokes and a good sense of energy. The resemblances look quite good too ^^
Plus the Bowie!hair/mane is completely made of awesome

Thanks mate. I absolutely love masks. Thank you for your critique as well. I want to be a little more loose with my strokes - I'm always trying to find something a little different (maybe a bit more abstract) with my work. I'd like to do more from my own imagination as well, with little or no references (which would be bloody hard)
Bowies wig was something to behold in this movie..It should have had a series of it's own

I remember watching that film many years ago... late at night (for me at the time... It was probably only around 9 o'clock ^^). Kinda want to watch it again...
Anyway, great picture as always Really drawn towards Bowie's eye make-up for some reason... so blueish-silver... I only wish I could paint as good as this!

Thank you for that! Bowies makeup in the film was great - not overdone but with the mullet, it almost looked kinda punky and gothic, but not girly.
I want to watch it again now...They've probably got some clips on Youtube, which I will have to check out.
