Jo's first time meeting Eliot! Jo's a third-year academy student now. Eliot is older... she graduated from the academy 50 years before Jo. (I'm still not really sure how time works in soul society, but whatevs.) Academy Jo is a giant mess of feelings and social (mostly dating) awkwardness.. not at all what she was like alive or what she's like currently.

"Alright, class, our guest speaker is back today... Miss Rios has agreed to come in and lecture on creating new spells." The instructor gestured to the door, and a rather short dark-skinned woman strode into the classroom, smiling as she stepped to the center of the room and re-introduced herself to the students.

"Hola! I hope you all remember me... but for those who don't, I'm Eliot...."

Jo Morelli, who never paid attention in the class (as she was an utter failure at kido anyway) perked up at the woman, who was cheerily giving a Spanish accented background of spell creation. Jo wasn't really listening, as much as staring, a slight blush creeping on to her face. She had seen Eliot a few times since the last class, and Jo thought she was the most beautiful person she had ever seen... and smart... and funny... Layla took notice of Jo's vacant looking face and coughed, poorly concealing a laugh.

"Jo!" She whispered, leaning over, "you arre drrooling on de table!" The blonde jumped slightly and blushed hard. Layla grinned. "Does someone hab a... a smash?" Jo blinked at her dumbly, before shushing her friend.

"It's 'crush'. And no.. I...No!" She whispered harshly, and Layla chuckled quietly.

Three months later, Layla half-carried Jo away from the training fields, who was bent over and breathing heavily, spitting a spray of blood every few seconds.

"AND DON'T COME BACK 'TILL YOU'RE PRESENTABLE! MY STUDENTS WILL NOT HAVE BLOOD STAINS ON THEIR UNIFORMS!!" Master Fuu screamed at them, and Layla dragged her friend more quickly.

"Why de hell deed you hab to do de smart-ass back!?" Layla hissed, "Don't you rremember what happened last time??" Jo grunted.

"She was being a mega-bitch! And last time she didn't break my damn nose!"

"Stop talking, eet sounds like you arre garrgling blood." The pair reached the healer's office, where Layla dragged Jo to a bed and pushed her down, rather roughly. Both looked up in time to see, to their surprise, the guest speaker form their kido class, who was eying Jo with her eyebrows knitted together in concern.

"Ay Dios mio...What happened?" She rushed over to the bed and cradled Jo's face, inspecting the off-kilter nose. Jo suddenly found the floor to be the most fascinating thing in the room and stared at it, cheeks burning.

"Oh, you know, trraining with dat insane zanjutsu sensei..." Layla stated, trying not to laugh at her awkward companion.

"You mean Fuu? I've heard she was tough on her students..." Eliot sighed. "It's definitely broken in two places. It's an easy fix though." She straightened up. "I'll have to snap it back into place before I can heal it though." Jo nodded stiffly, and shifted uncomfortably, hissing in pain. "Hey now. It looks like something else is injured."

"I'm fine.... don't worry about it." Eliot frowned, and reached down to inspect. The blonde swept her eyes over to Layla, pleading for help. She had such a mad crush on Eliot she could barely form a sentence around the woman. Layla grinned coyly.

"I think Fuu wanted me back out therre!" She said suddenly, and danced out of the room, ignoring Jo's deathly glare. Jo continued to stare at the door until Eliot touchd her ribs, making her jump and yelp in pain.

"Just what I thought... Remove your shirt, please."

"No, really, I..." Eliot poked her again, cutting her off.

"I said off!" She backed up from the table, and the younger woman mumbled complaints and lifted her shirt over her head, exposing a large bruise, a few scars, and her well-toned stomach. Eliot stared, a barely-visible blush creeping up on her dark features. I thought this girl was pretty cute before... but holy lord! The latina managed to compose herself in time for Jo to toss her shirt to the floor and sit back down. Eliot stepped close to her again, and Jo avoided meeting her eyes desperately. Oh, she's so awkward... It's so cute... No! Put those thoughts away, Rios... "I.. I'm going to take care of your nose first.." she placed her hand on Jo's face, who had heard the falter in the healer's voice and looked up.

Oh holy shit. Her fucking eyes! Who the hell has eyes like that? What is that color even called?? Jo flinched suddenly when Eliot re-positioned her nose with a sickening snapping noise, but didn't make a sound. The darker woman's hands began to glow green, and a warm sensation began replacing the Jo's pain.

"So.. uh.. I thought you were in the kido corps?" Jo asked quietly, her voice returning to normal as her nose was healed. Eliot looked at her curiously. She was slightly taken aback that Jo's voice was that raspy normally.

"I decided to go a few years in squad four, to learn healing... They're holding my position in the corps open for me." She answered with a small smile, now a little unnerved to be inches from the younger woman. "I.. um... wanted to learn about all the aspects of kido, you know? Not just the parts for battle." Jo nodded carefully, finding herself liking the woman more from her answer. They were quiet, studying each other as the bruises faded from Jo's face until they could barely be seen. Eliot blinked in surprise when she was done, running a finger absentmindedly over the scar across Jo's face. Jo held her breath, unsure of what was happening. (But enjoying Eliot's touch, oddly enough). Electricity seemed to burn in the air between them. "I thought... this was a cut.." Eliot said softly.

"No..." Jo swallowed. "I, uh.. got half of it when I was a human.. and the other half when I...." She shrugged, forcing the memory of her death back down. Eliot figured what she wanted to say, and nodded.

"It suits you." She whispered, and Jo raised an eyebrow. They stared at each other silently again, before Jo cleared her throat awkwardly, causing Eliot to rear backward spasmodically.

"Oh! Your ribs!" She nearly shouted, and caught herself, blushing again. 'I think you have two broken ones.... Let me..." She reached down and began healing again, and Jo closed her eyes out of relief from the pain. Eliot kept her hands off for a minute before just barely brushing her fingertips over the healing skin. The blonde shuddered at the touch and opened her eyes, letting the healer run her soft hands across her ribcage far past when the bruise was gone. But it was too much for her and she stood suddenly, bending down for her shirt, face burning furiously.

"Thanks, I.... You know, just thanks, everything feels a lot better..." Jo mumbled, and strode toward the door when Eliot grabbed her wrist, stopping her in her tracks.

"Do you want to get dinner tonight?" She blurted, and Jo turned slowly, a shy smile creeping onto her face.

"I... I'd like that."
