Description
I drew this while I was waiting for my turn for an interview which exlains the character design fail. Usually I use my toys as a reference, but this time I really didn't have anything with me. And on top of everything the lighting was horrible in there.Outlines are inked and everything else is made with coloured pencils.

Thank you! The pic would probably look much better with dark background because the shading is like that

You did this without a reference figure/picture?? He looks awesome, your style is very fun I really like the blue shading, it really enhances his paranoid mood O_o
Also, the high contrast between the blue and red is really eye-catching. And for some reason... the colors along with his pose remind me of something from the Harlem Renaissance XD I have no idea why.
In that case... maybe Red's dancing!

Yeah I didn't have anything with me for a reference when I drew this The blue shading would have probably looked better if the background was dark, but one just can't have everything
Harlem Renaissance? I don't think I know what that means, but that's probably because I'm not an American. But the idea of Red dancing amuses me

lol oh whoops the Harlem Renaissance was an art movement in... Harlem XD more than an art movement, but when it came to the art portion, it tended to have a rich, jazzy feel to it ^_^ subjects in the artworks usually appeared to be dancing
Just like how Red here appears to be dancing

Ahaa now I get it! I even did a wikipedia search for the subject. Awesome to know more about things
Now I can be like "Do you know what is Harlem Renaissance?" "You don't?" "Well I know what is!
"
That gave me a funny idea that I should make some pictures of bots dancing the Thriller dance for some reason

omg I was just thinking about thriller 5 minutes ago!XD I think it's a sign that you should definitely draw that Jazz would probably leave the others in the dust... but hey, it's Jazz

ahh so cute pic. Your "tons of blue" doesnt really bothered me, it translated me as shades of white at first glance.
Toy references, I haz eet! and i "bend rules" mixing desings as i feel like. Like you did here - Red has his G1 cartoon-style helm but Universe toy body.
My admiration for you for being capable to draw in a dark corridor - and having your art supplies with you!

Thank you! :3
It is supposed to be shades of white, but instead if the slight tint I was intending there's just wayyy too much of it I would work better if the background was dark, but it isn't and it's a pain in the ass to start colouring it dark with only coloured pencils
I like bending the rules to a some extent. Like with Red I like his G1 helm design more than the black helm his universe toy has. Speaking of his universe toy: I'm going to paint the stupid black helm he has into red
Hehe! I have a habit of carrying around two small cases of pencils and loads of white paper in case that I want to draw something

One of the reasons I paid the extra price for a Henkei Red was for his helmet being red. Somehow, with black helmet, he is more like Sideswipe... I want to paint the G1 toy's head.
hehe i wouldnt dare to draw in public anything else than flowers and landscapes!

I kinda got late to the game when I started looking for Red Alert. I wanted so badly to have him, but there weren't any Henkei toys for sale for a reasonable price and the Universe toy wasn't launched yet. So I had to wait for the Universe toy and I may have had the Universe toy before anybody else actually. I bought him from Ebay and I'm so glad I did so because there has not been even a trace of him anywhere in here where I live.
I do have Sideswipe and Ratchet as the Henkei versions and I gotta say that I like them much more than their Universe counterparts. One of these days I'm going to take Red to an RC store so I can buy paint for his helm Red just has to be the lamborghini with the Red head.
Haha I even draw slash pics in public and in meetings I'm just that shameless. Sometimes people stop by and start asking me wtf I am doing

I guess that's kinda something people doing traditional art sometimes do It may even result interesting things
Though usually I just get my neck really sore from drawing in dark

haha XDD yeah because when you haven't like or electricy and even you haven't batteries for cellphone, laptop or other things, you still can take a emergency light and try to draw something XDDD
haha and I know how it feels, here the same, my neck really hurts after drawing and coloring with poor or no light XDD

sunbeamattack In reply to Starshot-seeker [2010-11-07 19:24:57 +0000 UTC]
Yep! We even get real energy outages here, because I live pretty much in the middle of a nowhere and sometimes a tree fall on the power lines resulting an interesting time of no electricity... at all
I wonder why the neck starts hurting from drawing in poor lighting? Mystery

Starshot-seeker In reply to sunbeamattack [2010-11-07 20:28:18 +0000 UTC]
well here sometimes that same happens or from the station they cut the energy when we have electric storm here, didn't know why and for what, but every time here is an electric strong storm they cut the energy, so too with bad time we have no energy XDDD
haha XDD I think the neck hurting is because a bad position, we have to sit very corved and with our face more and more near to the paper XDDD
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
sunbeamattack In reply to Starshot-seeker [2010-11-07 21:37:01 +0000 UTC]
The electric storms would over energize the powerlines resulting some really bad things like the lines melting and people's household appliances exploding. Well not exploding, but they certainly would break. That sometimes happens here too during the summers, but not very often because we don't get any powerful electric storms.
That really might explain it

haha XDD well that's one of the things I know and that's why every time I hear a thunder I run and unplug all the important things like TVs, fridge, computers, router and all that XDDD
and talking about electric storms XDDD now I'm hearing some thunders but it still far from here (I think XDD)

I used very often my Toys for reference XD
But I like it ^^
Had you try with the blue color to make better shadows?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
sunbeamattack In reply to BeeLovesCade [2010-11-05 09:13:08 +0000 UTC]
I use pretty much always my toys as a reference. I've got an obsession to make my pictures toy accurate
Yeah I tried to make the shadows with blue colour. Usually it looks better on a white matter, but here instead of slight tint of blue I ended up shoving ton of blue on it, because I couldn't really see the picture all that well

Sorry if I offend, but is Red Alert red/white or red/blue? I thought he was red/white.
But it would not be the first time I've been wrong on transformers.

He is very much white/red, but the lighting was so bad that I plucked a ton of blue on him instead of the slight tint I was intending
