sundreaming In reply to mantrasiva [2006-12-08 18:47:14 +0000 UTC]

Nice ship! It's like ripped off a pirates movie. I like the birds flying all around and the grain, and of course the radial light. It creates a special mood. Great work!

I absolutely love this. I really feel as though I'm just standing there, looking at this happening. Very nice composition, love how the shutter speed was slow enough to get some of the movements of the birds, but you still get the idea of what they are as opposed to just masses of darker hues. Very, very nice!

oh my look at that grain hehe...it's happened that i'm listening to Pearl Jam 'Low light'...interesting how i clicked on this and decided to comment/crit and the song came on.. ...the birds give the image a very nice perspective and depth...it's nice cause the ship seems static and calm...it is as if you disturbed an ancient ship and a bunch of birds those that used the ship for its home flew out cause they have never seen such creature or have never been disturbed before...the depth that you captured shows the birds as if they are wildly scared and acted in a chaotic way...yet the ship is still sitting there...love the vignetting too ... it's not square!

sundreaming In reply to vietkatthroughlense [2006-10-25 21:57:01 +0000 UTC]

The grain…one of the things I miss of film is the natural grain of the 400 iso pushed to 800 or more. Using PS I can now see something more “natural” in that department… this is the first serious use of grain I’ve done in a while –viewing the detail of the blurred bird over the ship at full size the result is very convincing and close enough to the real thing. The test was submitting the print… DA is very strict on the subject “grain” but this one passed even at the largest size so that’s at least reassuring. I think I’ll try more of this…

The composition is… totally casual, I mean two elements, the birds and the ship, that on that particular “second” matched, and I was there to get it –that’s pretty much it! Developing the pic I obviously did the crop, the bw, grain etc etc imagining it like a choreography of those birds around a focal point, the ship… this is why I put it in central position, with the light like radiating from the central part of the pic. But after all this is all bla bla bla… and it would be nothing without the composition that composed itself

thank you so much.

the print mods must be asleep when they allowed it to pass...hehe i think if it didn't have grain it wouldn't have the same dramatic effect like it does now...
