Just now noticing that I've only been submitting refs, sorry not sorry. OTL I have a reason why though, just trust me, I'm working on something really awesome. I worked on it all day today since I had a snow day.(It's about time, considering I didn't have a single one last year
)As for this, for some reason this evening I decided to just go for it and make an official ref for her. I shamelessly used the poses in the FMOCA ref, but I redid the lineart so it had more of a settei feel to it. I'm making progress on how to properly draw it, this was good practice for that!
I don't even want to remember what sheΒ used to look like , she was a gross Mary Sue who was homeless for some reason and was neglected by villagers?? She had all the tropes, man. It was a bad time.
Imagine my surprise when someone comments on my ancient fan fic of her, asking for me to add more chapters. NOPE. How about I burn it instead?
Let's just say that I'm very happy where she is now, she will always and forever be my child. Even though she's technically exactly 100 years older than me.

I think that her hair color could use just a tiny bit of tweaking, but honestly the style itself I don't plan to change much. (Other than her bangs being more detailed, but that will just evolve naturally

But, anyway.... this looks very accurate to the FMA03 style, and... gosh, I know I say this every single time, but.... it seems like with every new deviation you post, you just keep getting better at the art style.

Thank you! :'D Yeah the way I see it is that bearing some resemblance to canon characters can actually be a good thing if done right, it helps her fit in but also stand out? I dunno, I'm still kinda figuring it out but at the same time I don't plan on changing her design too much. I'm not really concerned with that as much anyway, what's important is her story! owo9 Which is what I'm working on, actually. >w>
I kind of meant for her to look mature, but still look childlike at the same time? Because she's still a kid, which is something I forget more often than I should. 'D Even in Shamballa, she looks and (tries to) act like an adult when she's not technically. Then again, experiencing the near loss of a lover sure does make people grow up.

There's nothing wrong with flat ankles or "cankles". I think little details like that really do well for a character design to make them unique in their own way~ And, you're right. It's okay if there's just a slight resemblance to a canon character. There is no such thing as a 100% original character, after all; not even a Fan Character. But, it's always cool to see how they stand out. Because it separates the FCs from the rip-offs. And, then again, in FMA 03, there's a lot of canon characters that share similarities, like there's plenty of characters who have that "hair antenna" or the same shape eyes. And based on what I've seen from your Doujin so far.... I can't wait to hear more about Cassie and her story~ She just keeps developing more and more~
"Mature and childlike at the same time".... that's quite the term ^u^ But, it's plausible, it's at that "young adult" stage where kids start going through their teen years and developing their assets and whatnot, all the while growing out of their child-like "shells" (i.e. getting rid of "baby-fat" and developing their physique). So, I'd say you did well portraying Cassie as such. She definitely looks around the young adult age where she can still look like a kid, but show a bit of maturity.
